In the coming New Year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occur on the same day, Feb. 2, 2011.

 

It is an ironic juxtaposition of events:

 

A ) One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to an insignificant creature of little intelligence for prognostication.

B ) The other involves a groundhog.
