draggingnuts Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Ok I had some questions about diseases while im trapping and skinning. I shoe horses part time so my hands have cuts or scratches on them most of the time. I ware gloves when I skin but is there anything else I need to be doing so I dont give me or my kids anything. They like to be there when I skin so any ideas? All I have been catching is skunks and I heard most of them have rabies so that is why I ask.
db cooper Report post Posted January 13, 2011 If you are doing alot of trapping, especially skunks etc, you should look into getting a pre-exposure rabies shots (3 in a month). I believe they are good for two years but if you are exposed you still need medical attention and a couple more shots. A couple of javelina seasons ago, a guy I know had his butt kicked by a fox and went through the treatment. Not good, unless you are into the S&M scene.
