PhxHunt Report post Posted January 10, 2011 I am taking my family snow camping this weekend and we usually go to the stoneman lake area this time of year. I heard that the road was closed though. Is this true? If so, where else would be a good place to go snow camping where the roads are clear and there is quite a bit of snow? Thanks Aaron
desertyankee Report post Posted January 14, 2011 How far are you willing to walk, and how much snow do you need? There are some beautiful campsites on Milk Ranch Point, right on the Rim above Pine. It's a pretty easy two-mile walk from the parking lot on Rt. 87 along closed Forest Service roads, and the views are worth it. Don't know how deep the snow is, but the DOT webcam in Clint Wells shows snowbanks so I'm guessing the ground will be white, at least. I camped there last March and had a great time, and had it all to myself.
