huntin4... Report post Posted January 6, 2011 I was 16 yards from a really good buck and couldn't close the deal. We where hunting in an area that mostly holds mule deer. I was trying to get closer to mule deer I had seen and wondered into this Coues buck. He was all over the place had his nose to the ground most of the time and didn't notice me. When I first saw him he was head right to me and the veered off and started to head away form me a 40 yards, he didn't present a shot. Well I followed him for 50 yards or so and then he started to come right back to me. I knelt down and range him at 16 yards. I then proceeded to get buck fever, I always get excited, but this time was a little more. It was bad enough that I couldn't get my bow back. I started to draw and couldn't. That buck just stood there and looked at me, so I tried again and couldn't get it done. He had enough of me and left. After this was all over and about 10 minutes later I tried my draw and did fine and tried kneeling and drew and that work to. One thing is I think I was trying to draw with my bow straight out in front of me. My 3 sons were there coming up behind me to meet me and I told them what happened and my 14 year old said I should of waited for him and he would have gotten it done, maybe. tjhunt2 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 I know exactly where you are coming from. On my very first archery elk hunt I watched a bull walk right by me and drew my bow back and shot 90deg. the other way while watching the bull at 20yds. Never knew what I had done until my Dad told me. I once popped a blood vessel in my arm trying to pull back on a turkey. Never did get the bow back. Better luck next time. That had to be pretty exciting to say the least. I wish I could help you with this but I still have problems of my own controlling my breathing and the shakes sometimes are still terrible.
