standman Report post Posted December 30, 2010 With everything else that have been mentioned make sure you have a pee bottle. Doubles good as a hand warmer on these cold days. Brian
willhunt4coues Report post Posted December 30, 2010 I have tested mine out before my hunt in 2009 which is when I shot a 103 1/2 coues through a Mesh window and it was a spot on shot. Before season I set up my blind and got behind the blind and shot through both back and front windows while aiming at my target and hit dead on. DO NOT USE MECHANICAL broadheads because they will open on the mesh throwing your shot off or not correctly penitrating your game. Fixed is the only way to go in my opion anyways. I shot while up elk hunting at my broadhead target with a mechanical head and a fixed head and the fixed head was sticking out of the back of the target 12" and the mechanical was still at the front sticking out 12" in front. So you do get better penitration with fixed then with mechanical. just my 2 cents.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted December 30, 2010 TJ. How do you keep warm in the snow? Bob I usually have plenty of cloths on but I also have a sport heater that runs on a coleman bottle of gas for 18hrs. I've timed the bottles and they actually run from 14 - 18hrs. Works great! Thanks for reminding me, I need to get it back from a friend I loaned it to a couple yeas ago. TJ
willhunt4coues Report post Posted December 30, 2010 The killzone blinds are just as big if not bigger than the Double Bull and if someone steals it I am only out of 89 to 99.00 and not 300.00. They are a hub design just like double bull. Heck I have a few friends that have the Double and they like my blind better and have recently sold theres to get 3 of the Killzones. I take a regular Lawn chair to my blind and still have enough room for my friend and his lawn chair with 2 big back packs a ice chest and our bows and still have room to stretch. Buy one if you dont like it I will buy it from you. You can find them on ebay for 79.00 occasionaly. I bought both of mine for 79.00 from ebay. http://www.killzonehunting.com/hunting-ground-blinds Ps get the Turret blind or the 360 not the little one. standman Report post Posted December 30, 2010 Here is the blind I am using now. I really like it. I really like how the windows come a lot lower to the ground so you never have to worry about your arrow hitting the bottom of the window. My fault though, snowed and I couldnt get to it and the by the time I did, it was gone. I got the yukon tracks on sale for $109 and free shipping.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted December 30, 2010 If I had to go out and buy a new blind today it wouldn't be a double bull that's for sure. Mine is the old style and the rods have never gave me any trouble. I paid $480 back then. The new ones changed the rods, not sure how, but they are always breaking. It cost me $90 to send a new matrix 360, that I borrowed from a friend, back to primo and have them repair it. They would not warranty double bulls policy since they took over. For the money there are many blinds on the market under $200 that I would buy. I saw one in bass pro the other day, not sure the make, but it had sliding windows instead of velcro which I like alot and the material seemed like what's on my old double bull. DryHeat Report post Posted December 31, 2010 Just a note of caution, something that I have learned from this years late archery bull hunt. When shooting thru your mesh windows make sure that the entire arrow will pass thru the either the mesh or the port hole. I had the unfortunate experience of just catching the rim of the port hole on my Bone Collector blind with the top blade and fletching of my arrow and it sent the arrow high, ultimately resulting in a a lost spike. I feel certain that with only the one blade and one fletching being interfered with by the fabric it caused the arrow to be canted upwards, away from the vitals shot I took at 31 yards. If all blades and fletchings would have passed thru the fabric, they would have been affected equally, thus holding true to the original point of aim. WHALE Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Make sure there isn't two feet of snow coming. I went to check on mine today and found it won't hold that much weight all I could do is laugh and start diggin it out but nothing broke and was able to pop it back up. On a good note got some pics of a 3x3 passing through a few times in the daylight.
oz31p Report post Posted January 1, 2011 This one is going to get set up on Sunday where I know there's at least a few inches. But it will get left there. The roof is rounded so in hoping any more snow will just roll off.
talltines Report post Posted January 2, 2011 I missed a real nice 10 point buck, 160" class shooting through the mesh of my Double Bull blind a couple years ago and promised my self to never EVER try that again. If the angle isn't exactly straight on, you are bound to f' up your arrow flight! Still have nightmares of that evening along the edge of a corn field! Grrrrr! thunderbolt Report post Posted January 2, 2011 when i took my kids in the blind a couple years ago, i had them each hike in with a sleeping bag. when we finally got to the blind i had them take off there shoes and get in the sleeping bag. we were in at least 2 inches of snow for 5 hours. they never complained once about being cold. they took handwarmers, but they didnt seem to work (brand new ones too). and any 12 folding chair worked great. i just threw a throw blanket over the chair and it was very quite. ended up killing a 3x3 that day. oz31p Report post Posted January 3, 2011 TJ. How do you keep warm in the snow? Bob I sat in mine for a few hours today. I was good and bundled up and I was pretty warm. I left the mesh down just in case. When I left the truck it was 19 but I climbed 2k in elevation on the quad to the blind site. When the sun hit the side it radiated quite well. I keeped taking my gloved off and holding my hands on the wall to warm them.
