Rage Slip-cams

Recommended Posts

i use the quiver from pse that has the magnets in the top and holes in the foam so the blades dont press up in the foam and open. i have shot two pigs, a turkey, a bear, a lion, two coues, and 1 mule deer with the rage two blade and nothing made it further than 40 yards and i have never had any problems with the blades opening. but the replacement blades are a pian in the butt to replace

I have shot a few broadheads. I have chosen Wac'em 3 blade and love them. They have a small cut, but fly like bullets out to 80 yards. Instead of worrying so much about which broadhead to shoot, worry about hitting what you aim at. Shot placement is everything. People blame broadheads too much for losing game. The truth is, that if you hit your game in the lungs, it will die quickly. Even with a field point ( if they were legal.) Bottom line is Practice, Practice and Practice again.

I tried the rage and couldn't get them to fly accurate from my set up and returned them for a refund. One of the blades fell apart and that was enough to turn me against using them. I want to really try and use these mechanical blades but still haven't found one that I can trust. I will continue to try everyone that comes on the market. Not impressed so far. <img src="http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Try the Swacker I purchassed about a dozen different broadheads one year before elk season and nothing flew better at all yardages than Swacker. Very user friendly and has killed my animals quickly.

Ive shot 2 deer with the G5 montecs, both shots were decent hits, not in the heart but the deer should have expired within a reasonable amount of time. Needless to say I spent the remaining time of two hunts tracking wounded deer, Im talking a few days, not hours. I just dont think they perform as well as others. Sucks cause they shot great in my set up.

Just want to make a point that may or may not be productive...

The only thing Truely important about a broadhead is cutting diameter... if it punches a big hole it lets more blood out/faster. Other wise if you make a good shot you can kill something with a field point... and if you are patient after the shot you will recover it, because only gut shot or flesh wounded critters will go very far if not pushed.

http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12229

The 2 most important things to me in a broadhead is the cutting diameter and my personal confidence in that head for the game I am hunting. After that it is all me... because they are all sharp, they will all pass through if they don't hit bone mass, and they will all kill...and you can make any broadhead fly out 40-60 yds if you properly tune your arrows and your bow. But at the end of the day, it has to do with where the arrow hits...and 6 out of 10 times the arrow does not hit where we think it does on a coues, they are that fast, only going frame by frame over kill shot videos we have taken did we learn just how much these criters move... and that is why we wait hours unless we see the deer go down...bump them once and you will spend days looking for something you will likely not find. Recovery has less to do with the broadhead than most people think. Shoot what you like...aim very low and forward and a field tip would work... just my .02 cents... :D ...

By the way has anyone had the Rage heads not deploy all the way? My buddy Jason had Heart shot his coues this year and the entrance and the exit hole in the chest cavity were the same size as the hole in the heart pictured... less than 1 1/2 inches... and it was a 2" head... that concerns me.

http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23440

If you read the link above (or already have) you will notice that most of the deer are hit very low & forward, Jason's buck has blood all over the legs and that buck died with 50-60 yds. 6 of the 7 bucks in that post died that quick... all with different heads fixed and mechanical... it is shot placement, and "string jumping" not broad head... I promise. ;)

Someone else mentioned the NAP Blood Runner, my buddy Sam shot his buck with one and it was the most devistating hit out of the 7 bucks in my January Thread... having helped to butcher all the bucks that head is indeed wicked IMO... I'd like to hear if others have seen the same.

Cheers.

Those blood runners are wicked! they are great for deer and hog but i would really like to test them on an elk or bear to really put them to the test! Go on the NAP website they have a video of them shooting hogs! I will test them on a bear and let you know the results if i get the chance in august!

I shoot the Shutle T locks and love them! They fly like field tips as far as I want to shoot! IMO they are the best broadheads. I shot a muley with them, made a good heart shot and hit the off side shoulder. with the kinnetic energy my arrows have coming from my bow it shattered the shoulder blade! Needless to say he only went 40-50 yards.

I tried rages but i had a blade deploy early while shooting at a pig. It flew wildly and ended up hitting the pig but way back! luckily i recovered the pig and the only reason i did was cause i had two friends who saw where it ran after it got out of my sight!

I am with everyone on the shot placement! Any broadhead will work with a well placed shot. it all boils down to your preference as far as mechanical or fixed blade!

TJ youshould try the swhacker they don't have the rage problem and the blades are thicker and hold up very well. I have taken two bulls two deer and one pig with the same head..

I killed deer this past season with a Tekan and a Schwacker. Neither of them went more than 30 yds. Both fly true out to whatever range you have on your stack.

My dad used rages these past two seasons, now he's gonna go back to a fixed blade. He hated constantly checking to see if his blades where still down or not.

The dental floss comment makes does make sense and seems like it should work. I may have him try that out first.

I was going to use rubber bands but havent found any small enough.

I use the dental rubber bands around the middle.

Killed my last 2 elk with the Rage 2 blade 2". Both went less than 75 yards and not because they were both great shots. Both looked like a crime scene. I did have a blade pop out on me but it was because I hit some brush with it. Yes it is just another thing to keep an eye on but I still have to recommend them. Keep in mind that the Rage has a few different sizes and I recommend the 2" 2 blade, it leaves a hole that is hard to close up.

Just my opinion!

A 3 blade Rage did this and it was not a desired hit. However, the arrow went through flank and took out both femoral arteries. I got lucky.

Ya the ortho bands work well, you can also get crazy and use a dremmel to make little notches for them to fit into.

While I can appreciate to each is their own....but I find it strange Rages are modified to be just like a Rocky Mountain Snyper (that cost much less).

I bought three packs of the rage crossbow heads a couple days ago. I have yet to shoot them into anything, but I can tell you that the groove that the rubber band snaps into is much deeper, deep enough that they will never deploy to easily in your quiver. Whether or not they will open on an animals hide is a different story, but I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't. I've had my old rages cut the band when the opened, and I think they will do they same as they open. I liked the 1 3/4" cut instead of 2" on the 125gr. Also I got a sweet deal on ebay, 31.99 a pack, and only $5 shipping for all three packs! I like the look of em! Forgot to add, I"m using them on a regular bow, not a crossbow.
