travist1 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 So i started a build off of a Remington 700 SPS AAC-SD Tactical 20'' 1:10 after king4x4 hassled me about not having a good bolt action (I do have a nice .270 mouser action but my grand father built it from scratch and i wont put a different scope on it). So the next day i went and got a 700 Brand new and started ordering parts B&C tactical medalist A2 Stock (Weighs 3lbs) Badger ord. 20MOA scope base Bi-pod 6-20X50 Leupold Mark 4 ER/T Front Focal M5 turret mil/mil scope i will order rings once i figure out the clearance for the scope and then it will be disassembled for some quality lathe time to true everything, target Crown(the muzzle is threaded for a suppressor) lap the rings, bore, bolt, and make sure the scope base is not flexing the receiver, float and bed the stock Refinish and hopefully get the first rounds out of it by 15jan2011 Here is pictures as it sits and will take some of the actual build but i couldn't wait to get some pics up Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

sjvcon Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Well it looks like you've done better than "good" with that, although I'd argue that if you have a Mauser you already had a GREAT bolt action, but I certainly understand not wanting to mess around with something from your Grandpa. I have a Mauser from my Grandpa that will never be touched, other than cleaned and oiled regularly ... when I die it will go on to my kids, and hopefully theirs on down the line. One thing I strongly recommend (since youre putting so much time and coin into this) is to not overlook bedding the scope base or at least checking to see if it needs to be. If you tighten the 2 front screws down and leave the rear screws out, look to see if there is a gap between the rear part of the base and the action. Sometimes you cant see the gap but if you push on the rear and see even a tiny amount of flex, it should be bedded. Otherwise it will cause stress on the action and scope and you WILL be very frustrated trying to get it to shoot well. Even just a few thousandths of an inch is too much. travist1 Report post Posted December 31, 2010 308nut First i measured to make sure that the mount holes weren't drilled by a drunk sailor and then i checked for fitment feeler gauges and then that nasty blue gel for in-letting stocks and had almost 100 percent contact without tightening the mount screws so good on Badger Ord. Lapped the bore and the Surgeon Riffle rings were perfect too and for $200 they better well not need to be lapped being set on the Badger mount But i didn't take any of those pics ... however i did get some of the fitting for the case Took my time and used a regular box blade in a knife Exacto handle for the long strait cuts and another that i cut 1/16 behind the blade to do more detail work with. I drew it in with a sharpie making sure i made the line where i cut around the black marking. Most people use chalk but i found that the line isn't as crisp to see where your cutting as the black marker The foam was 1.5" and would have been hard for the bolt so i used some foam out of a Springfield Armory case and cut it to a basic shape so that i could lay it into the pelican foam I need to do the same with the lid foam for the wind-age knob that i did with the bolt I have everything in but the tool kit, suppressor and trying to make my mind up on a bi-pod selection. i have a Harris 9 to 13 but I'm thinking about having the Stony Point prone and the Stony Point sitting Kneeling in the case I'm not a big fan of the Harris at all with that flat B&C stock. also i want to save room for mags if i end up doing the Badger bottom metal and the reason i would is because i can get +.12 OAL with Cproducts mags over the standard BDL well Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
