michael22 Report post Posted December 17, 2010 Well our hunt started off as most hunts do by doing our scouting. It didnt go as planned cause we got 5 inches of rain in a matter of hours and that led to us getting stuck for about two and a half hours. By the time we got out it was late in the morning and didnt get to the point we wanted to check. We were there for 2 days and only spotted up two smaller bucks. Now its opening morning and we are outta camp and we had over an hour drive to get to where we needed to be. Shorlty after arriving we spotted a buck but he was a long ways off. We knew it was a good buck but couldnt tell how big so we set off to get a closer look. 2 canyons later and we were within about 500 yards of the does he was with. We knew he was bedded and waited as long as possible before trying to get closer but it was gettin late and we still had a hike ahead of us. We ended up kicking them up and outta there without gettin a better look. The next morning me and my buddy went a few ridges over and started glassing, it was a matter of seconds and i had got lucky and spotted some deer. We ended up spotting 8 bucks and a hand full of does and they were all together. 2 of the buck were nice and we took off after them with another failed attempt. Now its sunday morning and me and my dad went back to the same area i was in the day before. I showed him the ridge where they were, and again it wasnt long and there they were. We had the bino's and spotting scope out. This was a buck i wanted to shoot after lookin at him for a few minutes. I ranged some rocks under him that were 500 yards oh and thats as far as i could range so figured him between 5 and 6 hundred yards somewhere. My dad asked if i felt comfortable takin the shot i told him i was since we had been practing that far. My first shot was low so i adjusted and the second shot hit him between the right shoulder and spine. Dropped him in his tracks, but he did get up and after another few misses we connected and he was done for good. My dad ended up shooting the buck we stalked the first morning on tuesday i believe. Little did we know he was a double main beam nontypical buck. Our hard work and miles and miles of walking paid off!! We set out goals at 100 inches and i know we did good. After alot time and effort even a few stitches from a slip of the knife, I gotta admit it was a hunt of a lifetime. Most memorable to date! Thanks everyone for all the help with packing the deer out and for all the hard work..

michael22 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 when the taxidermist scored them the double main beam buck scored 101 and some change the dark horned buck scored 107. these are rough scores cause the frozen hides were kinda in the way so im still waiting for a call with an official score. and the avatar picture is a dead head i found this january while quail hunting, i posted the pic on the shed forum asking if people thought it was a coues deer or mule deer. everyone seemed to have there own opinion and to this day im not real sure what it is. so your guess is as good as mine. and thanks for all the comments i appreciate them all!!!!
