usmccarroll Report post Posted December 27, 2010 ok friends of cwt, i went out to 21 again friday and sunday to scout, i glassed everywhere around the 7 springs recreational area. not to far from the gazebos and picnic area. figured id try this area since there is water for them to drink from in some canyons, and with to full days of glassing canyons still nothing. not even a doe deer. i know my swaros arent broken, but come on now. nothing.... im really getting discusted now... am i looking in the wrong areas? is this hunt going to be a wash for me and should i waste my time on this hunt. this is not my unit and i am now second guessing myself on weather or not i should even go on this hunt. if there is any more advise out there on unit 21 i would deefely appriciate it. thanks again. tbrooks81 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 I think the Cave Creek fire a few years back really did a number on the Javy count in that area. The further north you go the better luck you will have finding pigs. If your interested in the lower country, I'd look at Tangle Creek all the way up to Long Mesa. The fire seemed to stay west of there for the most part.

azpredator@work Report post Posted December 27, 2010 Your looking on the wrong side of 21. +1 You can't shoot one if you sit out the hunt. You still have a lot of scouting time unless you're deer hunting in Jan.

usmccarroll Report post Posted December 28, 2010 thats why im asking for advise on this hunt. not my unit. which is the right side of 21. any advise would be greatly appriciated.
oz31p Report post Posted December 28, 2010 I like the west side. There are deer and javelina in most of the unit. I would steer clear of recreation areas as the wild life don't normaly hang out near places with a lot of human activity. Don't worry too much about water. 21 has a ton of perential springs. Most are not very big but they are constant. In some areas every caynon has a spring. The areas I frequent it seems like I find a new spring every time I go for a hike. The deer/javelina can be spreed out at times in some areas you'll hike for a few mile and not see any sign. Then find an area where its tramppled. You only need to find one area with a herd of javelina and chnaces are they will be in the area come season. If road hunter bother you make sure you hike into an area where no roads can be seen. They are getting pretty bad in 21. Have you looked at g&f recomended areas?? They normaly point you in the right direction. But they tell the world about them. So try to get to areas most people won't. There no way I would waist this tag or any tag for that matter.
