Shiras Report post Posted November 12, 2005 I was actually thinking of starting a topic on this very thing. October 1 was opening day of archery here, and I took a friend from work from Phoenix that had never hunted eastern WT's. We went the night before to set up my stand for him, 30 FREAKING minutes before dark. 11 1/2 short hours later and it's gone. My new Summit headhunter that I had never even used. We were on Private land and some a-hole thought "gee that looks like a nice-un ....think I'll take it" I Went out this morning to same place. It is still archery season (oh man I'm getting more angry by the second) I see 2 lights from about 800 yards away, coming my way. They cross 2 fences to get onto my property. Daylight comes and 1 of the idiots fires 5 times with a rifle!!! Poaching, tresspassing and I could almost GUARANTEE that they were the same scumbags who stole my stand. What is wrong with people??????? Good thing I didn't have a cam out there, as I'm sure it would gone. -Shiras

GRONG Report post Posted November 23, 2005 Shiras, Dude that sucks balls man!!! I'd be as PO'd as you are too buddy. Yikes. My trail cams are just held to the trees with bungee cords, one of these days I'll have to secure them a little better but I just don't think anyone's gonna find them. Did you have yours in an easy to find kinda spot or what?
Shiras Report post Posted November 24, 2005 Josh, It was a treestand, and yeah I guess it would be easy to find but only if you walked in off of someone else's property. It's probably 1/2 mile from any road. I share this property with a couple other of guys that leave their stands up and we've never had a problem. We've kind of policed the area ourselves since the rancher doesn't really get back into the woods a lot. Honestly it's my fault for leaving it out there, especially being brand new and not locking it. I guess I was just figuring that with 30 minutes of daylight left, the unthinkable couldn't happen. I've learned a valuable lesson. (I'm actually relinquishing my position on that property to someone else. I had a box blind built for my son and I and someone came by and vandalized it. They pryed all the windows and door off, broke the bench and took a piss in it. Probably the same a-hole) If he was trying to send a message to me that he doesn't want me hunting there anymore, I received it. And it's probably a good thing. There's no telling what I'd do to that scumbag for ruining my son's hunt. Just a note to all honest hunters....thank you for what you stand for. Happy Thanksgiving all. -Shiras
muley Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I know how you guys feel, I had two cameras set up (in) a dirt bank on a water puddle not a tank and was trying to get a better look at a buck hitting it, and some peterpuffer stole both of them, although this was down in 18a, it still eats at me. Thank heavens they weren't digitals.

TLH Report post Posted December 24, 2005 We used cams at waterholes last year to find who was stealing our tree stands--we got a couple of pictures but i can't post them because of some kind of court order. The people who were taking the stands were anti-hunters out of Flagstaff. We like to setup one cheaper cam on a tree and then setup another one further away from the tree. I really am not worried about people knowing that i do this because it might make them think a couple of times before they mess with anyones stuff.
