desertdog Report post Posted December 14, 2010 Dog, Dog, Dog - lets get our head on straight here. What does all this stuff that you posted really mean? That MAYBE ua MIGHT have a better basketball team in 2 or 3 years. Wow - we hear that about ua football every year. Give me a little credit, of course I know 2 missed pats in one game is freakish but regardless of what you think, winning on a made fg after a muffed punt in the end of the game is also freakish. apparently missed pats is nothing new for mr alex z as he shanked 3 earlier in the year and 3 last year. trust me, I know plenty about shanked pats as ASU lost two games this year as a result of missed pats. also, I am really tired of hearing about the dropped interceptions by the ua dbs. There is a reason why those guys are playing defense. it is because they CAN NOT catch the ball. if they could catch the ball they would be receivers. they probably got stuck on defense in highschool after their coaches observed their inability to catch the ball. fact is, ua lost to ASU in an ugly game that was a result of ASU having to start their 2nd string QB. A QB who was only making his 2nd career start. I think it goes without speaking that if Threet had started the results would have been a lot different and we would not be having this conversation because missed pats would not have factored in the outcome at all. another fact is that I am all for Stoops staying as long as the ua and it's fans will have him because regardless of what nieve ua fans want to think, they will never win the pac10 while he is running the show. the ua can flounder around in the middle to bottom of the pac10 for as long as they want, bragging about winning 7 or 8 games and going to meaningless bowl games or getting smoked in bowl games they should not be playing in. the flip side of this is that ASU got rid of Koetter after several seasons of mediocrity, a few bowl appearances but for the most part, unacceptable results, a concept ua has failed to grasp. and JAKE - come on man. I hope you are not calling me either a "fair weather fan" of either ASU of ua. I am a die hard ASU fan and a "never weather" ua fan. I will have to admit, it was fun to see the kitties climb unsubstantiatedly to #9 in the country only to see their house of cards come crashing down all around them and their fans. Boy that Iowa win really turned out to mean a lot after they finished the season 7-5. maybe you guys can pool your resources with the Iowa fans and head up the "2010 Most OVER RATED Football Team of the Season - Fan Club" because you both sure know plenty about it. Come on moderators, let's get this thread PINNED up there so we can come back to it and rehash it after every ua loss. Trust me, just like the Holiday Bowl last year, the Alamo Bowl is going to be a game the ua and it's fans will soon want to forget, one where all the so called fans (but really fair weather fans) will have turned off in the 2nd quarter. Come on OK ST! Alex Z for team MVP! Okay SunDevil my friend sense you don’t understand or comprehend the facts I posted about basketball let me explain it for you. It means the ASU basketball program will be in their rightful place under the Cats boot heals for a very long time. It does not mean that we WILL have a better team in a few years it means we have a better team NOW!!!!!!! this year. The thing I did not mention was the recruits Miller brought in this year. I would tell you about them but you will find out about them soon enough. In my first post I already said that ASU deserved to win the game. Please don’t tell me I cant point out missed opportunities. Fact is it is the same as you saying “well if Steven Threet played” blah blah blah. And your really going to preach to me and all the UofA fans about having a football coach that will never get us to the Rose Bowl and we are settling for mediocrity. Do you have the slightest idea what old drunk Dennis Erickson’s record is at ASU? That would be 17-19 in the Pac-10 and 24-25 overall. Hummm seems pretty darn mediocre to me. And yes I do know Stoop’s record at UofA is 40-44 overall but he took over a program that was a complete disaster and has built it into a consistent winner and bowl team. So yes I will choose Stoops over Erickson any day. Stoops teams have been improving every year as Ericson’s teams have been deteriorating. In order ASU record sense Erickson has taken over is as fallows. 2007 10-3 2008 5-7 2009 4-8 2010 6-6 Not exactly setting the world on fire now is he? You pointing out that the Cats are going to “meaningless bowl games” in your words is laughable. Let me put it in terms that you may understand. You bagging on the Cats for going to a bowl and you as a ASU fan sitting at home for the third straight year is a pathetic at best. Will the Cats be blown maybe, maybe not. But even if they are it will not hurt their recruiting efforts. Sorry but college athletes given the choice will choose to go to a school that is going to bowls and winning the majority of their games over a school that has a loosing record every year and has no shot at going to a bowl. Oh and if your going to keep bagging on the Cats please get your facts straight. They are not 7th in the pac-10 this year they are tied for 5th with ASU and Oregon St.
daryl_s Report post Posted December 14, 2010 Man, you guys really get into this stuff!!! I did not attend ASU. I cheer for them as a fan since I was born and raised in the valley of the sun. The ASU-UA rivalry is fun but in all reality I like to see any Arizona school do well when it comes to the national spotlight. I hate that the PAC-10 gets looked down on as an inferior football conference so I like to see the conference as a whole do well, especially in bowl games. I ALWAYS cheer for ASU when they play U of A but if U of A basketball program returns to an elite program, which I believe they soon will, then I will like to see them go deep in the tourney because it looks good for the state of AZ, a state that has been beat up in the national news for political reasons. I love this state and will probably be here my whole life. I didn't attend either school so that's probably why I don't have some deep hatred like SunDevil. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Dog - sorry to point out the obvious but I think you need to go back and read all of my posts. never did I mention anything about Ericsson being a good coach. In my opinion they have kept him around way to long and should have looked for greener pastures a year or two ago. Just like I think the ua should be looking for someone who can do more with their program than stoops.and can we please get past the blah, blah, blah, stoops took over a crappy program thanks to blah, blah, blah, Makovick, blah, blah, blah. get a little tired about that whinning all the time. shouldn't have ran tomey out of town then. Three bowl years in a row isnt very good, is it? AND YES THEY DID FINISH 7TH IN THE PAC10 THIS YEAR. OSU finished 5th. ASU finished 6th and the kitties finished 7th. Casey - wrong again, wrong again. I will also point out the obvious for you seeing as how you are incapable of reading or to lazy. never did I mention anything about not being able to cheer for a team if you did not attend their school. I just don't agree with people who throw around the words, we, my, our, etc, when they have ZERO affiliation with that institution. let me apply some of your logic to make sure I have this right. Say you grow up in Marana and then right before you are a freshmen your family moves to Oro Valley. You attend Ironwood High. After high school you move back to Marana. Using your logic, you are going to root for Marana? Really because I do not think so, you are going to root for Ironwood. Now let's take this one step further, in addition to rooting for Marana (which you aren't because you went to Ironwood), you are going to bag on me for GRADUATING from Mtn View? That's right, I said GRADUATE because every month I get a magazine in the mail that says ASU ALUMNI. CAN YOU SAY THE SAME? DID NOT THINK SO! So based on your logic, I SHOULDNT cheer for U of A because I went to NAU? And also, me not graduating from NAU, I dont really think is any of your business.... But, just so you know I was bed ridden by doctors orders for 8 weeks during my last semester. Hard to come back from missing two months of school. And I know I am doing pretty poorly for not having graduated college.... Very well paying job with the federal government that I love, I own a home, I own a really nice truck, I went to Africa, I will be going to British Columbia next year for a mule deer hunt, I send my parents money every paycheck to help them out... Doing pretty poorly for not graduating college, aren't I? And as to your logic... I chose NAU based on them having the program I wanted to get my education in (which, BTW I completed all my major classes need to finish my two minors, which I completed in the academy). So because YOU wouldnt root for which the school you previously attended it makes it illegal and wrong for me to do so? And also, when in this thread have I bagged on you for going to and graduating from ASU? Just so your feelings aren't hurt, great job on graduating from ASU. You did a fantastic job and I am glad you did so. You are a much greater person than I for having a piece of paper acknowledging your full college education. This is my logic: U of A has gone to three bowl games in a row.... Never been to a Rose Bowl. Big deal (that seems like all ASU has to brag about, minus the meager win this year) ASU hasnt been to any bowl games during those three years. Do I pretty much have the facts straight or am I missing something?

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Yeah I did bag on the Dodge. The trucks are good minus the transmissions. They suck asss, as my truck needs to get its 3rd tranny put in it. And yes, thank you for prooving my point even more so. The Rose Bowl seems to be a big deal to YOU. I dont see any Wildcats fans sitting around talking about never going to the Rose Bowl and how it hurts our feelings. Good post though, btw.
Coach Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Wouldn't it be funny, just once, on one of these UA vs ASU threads, just to ask that those on both sides agree that they actually attended and graduated from the one they support? Just had to toss that out there, as lots of the die-hard ASU fans I know never got closer to ASU than bar hopping in Tempe, hoping to find a co-ed drunk enough to talk to them. That's right, I said GRADUATE because every month I get a magazine in the mail that says ASU ALUMNI. CAN YOU SAY THE SAME? DID NOT THINK SO! Devil I pointed out Erickson’s record because in your prior posts you never maid a single mention of not being pleased with Erickson and wanting to get rid of him. However you bring up Koetter and use him as an example of how ASU does not settle with mediocrity. But you conveniently skip over your current coach and how he is bringing ASSU along. As far as Stoops yes he is in year seven. And yes at this point Cat fans can stop pointing to the Makovic era as a excuse for bad teams. I never used Makovic as a scapegoat for Stoops. I just pointed out how down the program was when Stoops took over and was making the point that for the first few years you have to give him or any coach a pass to see if they can turn the program around. Stoops has done that. That is not questionable. Fir the past three years the Cats have had a better record that your beloved Sun Devils. Is the gap narrowing? I guess we will have to wait tell next year to find out and see how the two programs finish the season and we can compare records. As far as this year goes yes you have bragging rights but the Cats have had a better year. They have the better overall record and are playing in a bowl. No matter how you try to spin it playing in a bowl is a accomplishment, it is good for the program win or loose, and will pay dividends for the UofA and the rest of the programs in the Pac-10 because of revenue sharing. So your welcome. Because of the Cats winning ways your looser program gets a free payday. Stoops will get a few more years to see if he has reached his ceiling for many different reasons. But a major one is that he has produced a winning product on the field which is more than can be said for Dennis Ericson and ASSU. And as for the 7th place or not argument. Check out the official Pac-10 website. http://www.pac10.org/Sports/Football/Stand...eason=2010/2011 That is officially a three way tie for 5th place. Listen we can go on and on with this pissing match. But you being a Devil fan I would really like to get your opinion on something. As much as I hate ASU I have always felt they are a sleeping giant in the Pac-10. They have all the tools to be a serious national football power (weather, they are in one of the US largest cities, good facilities, money etc.) but can never seem to put it together consistently. Why isn’t your program challenging for the Pac-10 year in and year out like they should be?
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Hey, as long as they have been to a Rose Bowl, who cares right? That seems like Chris' last argument... Well, that and I am a nobody because I dont have a degree, and I shouldn't/can't cheer for U of A because I didnt go there.

narrox Report post Posted December 15, 2010 It’s getting hot enough to roast marshmallows in here. I heard that freshman orientation at NAU they give you a pair of Birkenstocks and a Hacky sack. According to .270 you have to have a passport and a five spot mordida to get into a parking spot at the U of A.. Finally, do all know the difference between ASU and prison? … You have to do something to get into prison! ‘tis the season!
desertdog Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Dog - why must people always stoop to being derogatory? that shows a lot of maturity. Fact is the ua rode on the coattails of all the other pac10 football programs for 9 years without contributing a single dime of bowl money to the conference. lets just see how the director's cup standings end up at the end of the school year. I looked back at the last 5 years and the highest the ua finsished was #11 in 2005 - 06 while ASU finished #4 in 2007 - 08. Casey, come on, everybody knows you are a somebody, even me. how could we not know, you have done such an excellent job getting on here and blowing your own horn. Okay maybe I was over he line with the ASSU bit. But the question I asked is a serious one. I think you will be hard pressed to find many UofA fans that will admit that if ASU can put things together the rest of the conference is in for some hard times. Especially now that USC is on probation and their loss of scholarships. UCLA is not going any where, and Washington is still rebuilding. Do you have any thought on this.........I am not being a smart a$$ just want your take.

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Hmmm... That whole once you go to one school and then graduate from another BS you spelled out sure sounded like you saying it was wrong for me to cheer for them. How do you know myself, or one of my family members dont hold season tickets? How do you know how many home games I go to? FYI, I go to every home game I can, when I am not working. That was 4 this year. Narrox, they do not give out the birkenstocks and hacky sacks at freshman orenitation those are required to be accepted into the school. Freshman oreintation, atleast mine was spent cliff jumping, smoking hooka, and spotlighting for elk/deer etc.
