Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! I am new to the website but have checked it out before. Well I drew out for the burro mountains in Unit 23 for January bow hunt for coues whitetail. I was wondering if anyone could maybe post some places where I should check out because I have only been there a couple of times and I didnt see anything. I hope you could give me some help because I hear this is a quality unit and I would like to have a good experience if I can. Thank you if you are able to help me!!

You have heard right, The Burro Mt. portion of 23 is a quality hunt. I think most of us from NM know that and don't have to be told! There are coues deer in much of the unit. Driving through some of the higher terrain you may see some. Get off the road and glass and you will see some. You need to spend some time in the next month glassing where you can and wearing out some shoe leather in the thicker stuff if you want to have a chance.

Contact crazyaboutcoues here on this site and see what he can do for you. He provides a scouting service and is hunting the same hunt! Maybe he will help you out?

my uncle lives in the burros. I go there every easter and see a whole lot of deer. Bucks ranging from little to BIG. Too bad all i really see is mule deer though. They are everywhere. The whitetail i have seen have actually been in the lower stuff. They have all been prety much out of the big trees and into the brush, cat claw, greasewood, etc.

E-mail crazyaboutcoues. Tommy knows more about it than anyone. He owns Gila Wilderness Hunting. I suggest doing a search under his name and you will find a lot of unit23/Burro Mnts. threads ;) -Shiras
