(Jan. Hunt-Success!)Updated Deer/Scrape Pics

Recommended Posts

how bout an update? bet ya seen something

We were able to go one more time before the first of the year and we didn't see a thing that day. We are now set up in a different unit. I set up blinds today on some awesome spots. Going to be sitting tomorrow. We are going to be hunting for the next week and a half so hopefully some good things are going to happen. This spot we have been hunting, we decided to let my brother hunt it because it is close to his home, but the snow has been too deep to get back in to it. He is going to try to get in there this next weekend.

I have been sitting the past two days and have seen a bunch of does and small bucks but nothing that I want to hang my tag on yet. Will be sitting again tomorrow. Here are some pics of where I am hunting.

Here is my best friend that I have conversations with in the blind.

It is unreal how many deer are funneling through this spot. The bigger bucks have been coming through at night but they will screw one of these times and show up when I am there.

I would like to have my dad there with me, as he would love a crack at one of the smaller bucks, but with the snow it is too slick for him to be walking in there. Don't want to pack him out too.

Good luck Brian and be careful going in and out of there. You and your Dad are really dedicated hunters that's for sure. Keep us posted. Wow, 71 archery kills for your Dad. That is just amazing. Not only can you guys catch fish you nock the heck out of the deer herds as well. Thanks for posting and I look forward to the next report. :)

Thanks TJ. My dad keeps bugging me trying to get me to go fishing with him. He's got the fishing bug now. LOL.

Yesterday I sat and saw does, a two point, and a big buck. He wouldn't give me a shot opportunity, too thick, no lane. Really mad me sick not to get a chance at him. :(

Today was windy, cold, and long. Only saw 3 does and a fawn. It was an IPod day ;) . Alot of fun though. Won't be back hunting for a couple days but then I will get back at it.

I was going to go back and sit yesterday, but I had a friend that wanted me to run down for the day and go pig hunting with him. We ended up glassing a group of pigs, about 25, at 10:30 yesterday morning. He was able to stalk into them and kill a nice pig.

We spent the rest of the day spot and stalking coues deer. We glassed up 14 bucks for the day, with some really great bucks being found. I was able to stalk a really nice three point right before dark. He was bedded and I was able to get 40 yards of him but I couldn't see him due to vegetation being to tall. I was out of time due to darkness so I couldn't wait him out to get up and start to feed so I tried to move in on him to find a shot and I finally got busted. I should have just hit my bleat call and he probably would of stood up offering a shot. Hind sight is 20/20.

The rut was a cranking. Bucks contantly chasing does. Watched two bucks get into a big fight. They were really getting after it. It was great day.

I will be back sitting in my blind tomorrow.

I sat in the blind today till 2:30 today. I had a real pretty three point come in twice at 20 yards but each time he would only poke his head and neck out and then stop. He would not cross in front and go to the scrapes. He would just back out and go back the way he came. I think he had a sixth sense or something. Too bad, I was ready to put my tag on him. Had another buck cross in front but he stayed out about 50 yards. Could only see parts of him as he passed by. Also had one deer walk by behind me. Could only hear him walking in the crunchy snow.

I'm not able to go tomorrow but I will be back out on Saturday. I just need a little more good karma to help me out.

I was only able to sit a half day today. Had a one horned spike some by at 7:55am. Looked like he broke the other antler off at the pedical, looked like it would hurt like heck. Then had a small 2 point come by and let him pass. Then twice had the same 3 point as the other day show up. I swear he knows I'm there and he is just toying with me. He constantly will stay just in spots where he is covered up by something that I can't shoot through. Had him under 20 yards for 25 minutes and he never presented a shot. I'm going to sit Monday and Tuesday then after that I am going to do some glassing and do some spot and stalk hunting for a little while for a change of scenery.

If you all are getting tired of me posting updates just let me know and I will let it go. All I know is that I am getting tired of posting unsuccessful updates. LOL.

I enjoy reading the updates. I haven't been able to get out very much so I look forward to stories of other peoples' hunts.
