Christmas Tree Hunting

Recommended Posts

I am living in the valley and will be spending Christmas down here this year. Usually I spend it up in Alpine and that is where I usually get our Christmas tree (and do my hunting). Well Alpine being far away I do not want to travel that far to get a tree this year. I am lookin for a good Christmas tree hunting spot close to Payson. I understand if it is to close a guarded secret to tell. But if someone could part with forest road number or something it would be much appreciated. I know this is considered e-scouting and is looked down apon (by myself included) but with ASU finals in full swing I have not had the needed time to get out and do some Christmas tree scouting for myself as I should have. Thanks.

•Mogollon Rim Ranger District has 250 permits for fir trees. Cutting area is along the Mogollon Rim at the south end of Dane and McClintock Ridges. Permits can be purchased at the Mogollon Rim Ranger Station on Highway 87, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. 928-477-2255.

The Coconino NF website is hardly up to date, so better call and see if any permits remain.
