SO, I'm helping my cousin out on his deer hunt in a southern unit when these guy's busted out a fine buck that we had been stalking.

 

So, what do ya do? do you take a shot at the buck and risk..Well, maybe a confrontation.( In the pic everyone knows who is there )

 

What to do?

 

So, my question is? Take the shot and draw attention and what not..Or let your dream buck get away till these guy's are gone and have zero chance on the buck?....

 

I'm glad things are improving on the border.

If it's me and I have a shot at the buck I'm taking it. These guys with their valuable cargo are NOT going to go after somebody who is trying to shoot a buck. Their job is to get from point "A" to "B" with their cargo. Why in the world would they go in the direction of shooting??? They're probably going to pick up their pace in the direction they are heading. Either way, I'm shooting at the buck.

Just to give you a little perspective from our view.. Buck was above these guys.. So what would ya do?

I know what I would want to do and I know what I would do.

 

 

Regradless, if you decided to take the shot, I wonder if they would 'turn you in' to the authorities.

 

I will probably loose some respect here but I will be honest anyway.

 

If I perceived that they were illegal imagrants, I would cut them some slack and let them walk and pass on the buck. Despite the fact that I dont like illegal imagrant activities, it isnt worth it.

 

If I perceived that they were drug mules, things might be different. Drug mules are like coyotes. I would seriously concider shooting the buck of my dreams. The ball would then be in their court as to what happened next.........If they chose to keep truckin, good on them. If they layed down to fight, I am more patient.

 

Then reality would have set in and as I was concidering shooting my once in a lifetime buck, I would realize that a bad situation could turn into heck for alot of good people and I would end up passing on the shot. With mouths to feed at home, my pride and hatred for drug mules isnt worth death or jail.

Man, I would be all for shooting the buck. The problem is, lately these guys aren't just packing, they've got scouts around them. You don't know how those guys would take shooting around their "cargo".

 

I'm all about saying to heck with smugglers and illegals, this is OUR STATE, and we'll hunt it by God. On the other hand, I'm nearing 40, and don't want to leave my wife widowed and my sons without a father because I chose to chase a deer.

 

I sure wish the Gov't would do their job so we didn't have to make these kind of life-and-death situations, just to hunt the land we have every right to hunt.

Kill the deer. Play dumb. My guess is the deer would hit the ground just as they ran like heck. Oh yeah, carry a megaphone from now on for this very situation, just kill the deer and yell "IMIGRAAAAA!"

Maybe there ought to be a posted # available for people hunting in all of these units , to contact the local BP. everyone carries cell phones these days - get a gps reading - most hunters do carry gps - turn these guys in !

maybe the best eyes the BP's got is hunters out in the field -

 

then when the helicopters start searching the area - all the bucks will be up and running

Your comment should not lose any respect from this site...It is pretty factual of what can occur..

Whether you have time to make that decision under the circumstances. Is a whole nother matter.. Believe me, Knowing that a person is doing a task to better themselves. Is one thing...knowing a person is willing to take what ever means necessary to better themselves is another thing..

In a positive note. I'm able to relay this experience with ya all. This is such an informative site. And we can all learn from others experiences in the field..

You're right, it's easier to type out a response than to actually do it. Did they know you were there??? That would factor into the decision, too. Besides, if they think they are being shot at they are going to hightail it out of there or hunker down. I have a hard time believing that a person that believes he/she is being shot at isn't going to run, especially when they may not even be sure where it came from. If they don't know where it came from you shoot the deer and stay out of sight. I know, I know, easy to type it out because I wasn't there. But if I felt the situation was right, I'm shooting. I have come face to face with illegals. I've seen 50 guys walking single file through the desert and I've found 1 dead body. I've watched the BP helicopter and many trucks and agents do a big drug bust that we ended up right in the middle of way back in Peck Canyon. So it's not like I'm just spouting out a response, either. As uncomfortable as you feel seeing them below you, they would feel it a thousand fold when that bullet rips through the air above their heads.
