Siwash: Yes.

Dragging Nut: Alibris.com had a copy for less than $10 when I checked earlier today.

i have a copy but you cant have it. i knew em both. and their name is power, not powers. good dudes that got railroaded big time. too bad they didn't kill that sorry assed deputy marshall that ran away too. i know a lot of guys that knew em as kids, before the shoot out. know a couple guys that were on the posse. there was quite a bit that didn't make it into the book too. when i was a kid i worked in a grocery store that they used to shop at all the time. for a time they lived with some friends that i went to school with. sorta sad the way they were screwed over. when they went into prison you seldom saw an automobile and when they got out they were shootin' guys into space. my grandad said they were such good shots it was spooky. guess that sorta showed during the shoot out. the guy that got really screwed over was tom sisson. he was just there and ended up dieing in prison. i'm actually sorta shirttail related to the sherrif that got killed. Lark, That is pretty neat to have the personal history and ties to the event as you do. Have you been back to the site? It was quite interesting to read portions of the book and then see the site in person. Like seeing the bullet hole next to the window that damaged the one son's eye.

It's also impressive the operation and gear they back in there. The IR air compressor and rock crusher were very cool to check out.

There was another book written by someone other than Power that is supposed to give a different slant to the story. Anyone know anything about it?

I think the other book is "The Evaders" by Darvil McBride.

If you can find it, the coroners inquest makes for some good reading about it as well.

i did try to read the other book once. it was so slanted against the power boys that i gave up on it. according to the book they were craven animals. they were just kids that lived in the middle of nowhere and their dad got into a fight with the sheriiff who then tried to teach ol' jeff a lesson and got killed for it. the wootens were a buncha trash from all i ever gathered. and tom sisson got blinded in one eye in the fight too. seems like a bullet went through a saddle and sent splinters into his eye. he was a retired cavalry soldier who was just visiting the power family when the shootout occurred. served his country honorably for many years and died in prison while being completely innocent of any crime other than running away. what else could you do when that mess took place? i've been to power's garden several times. went in with sandrails once, before they made it a wilderness. one rough ride. the forest circus has a model t pickup that the power's took in there shortly before the shootout. it was parked in the drift of the mine and was there untill i think in the 60's. the usfs flew it out with a chopper and painted it green. used to always drive it in parades and stuff. another great story that took place in the same general area, was the wham robbery. now i actually had kin in on that one. but so did everbody else that is from pima, but we won't name no names. power's garden is still in the middle of nowhere. think of how remote it was then? good heck, that was the other side o' the world. pretty cool place and there are some grotesquely huge coues in that wilderness. i'd love to be able to spend a month in there horseback after a coues. Lark.
