Golden quail

Recommended Posts

Decided to do a little quail hunting this past weekend while helping out on a Jr. deer hunt.. Ive never seen a "blonde" gambel quail and it doesnt have a plume. Anybody ever seen one?

Debating on whether or not to do some type of mount with it.

Nice Bird !!!!I have shot one that looked like that one except had a top knot down south in 36b I thought maybe one of the gambils was getting his freak on with one of the bob whites down there LOL a rare bird for sure I would have it mounted.

I saw some quail in 36a that looked like half scaled and half gambels this past weekend. I still am not sure what they were! Actually they looked more like 3/4 scale and 1/4 gambels.

Could they have been the masked bob white quail they have on the refuge?

no, that's what I wondered at first, but they didn't look anything like those quail. They looked like shorter, stockier gambels with pale top knots.

Sort of like that one, but a much whiter top knot. Perhaps they were scaled, but they seemed to have more of a top knot shaped like a Gambels than a tuft like a regular scaled quail.

It was dark out and they were running in the road in our headlights.
