COUESAZ Report post Posted October 31, 2005 You guys taking the youth out RULE in my book. My son is only 5 Years old and goes with me if the country is easy enough for him. They say that 95% of hunters today are over the age of 33 years old. Not real good numbers for the future of hunting in my book. Please continue to take your kids and anyone elses kids you can out in the field with you. We need them for our future as well. I have seen some great bucks taken buy some great kids, Being shown the ropes by some even greater older hunters. Keep it up guys.
stanley Report post Posted October 31, 2005 I agree Arizona Guide! It really does my heart good to see these youngsters out & about. My oldest is just coming of hunting age, and it is a joy to see him learning all that the outdoor world has to teach. The excitement in anticipating my boy's Jr. hunts this year rivals anything I've experienced with my own hunts. He didn't get a cow on his Jr. elk hunt a couple of weeks ago, but we'll be up on the Kiabab in a couple of weeks trying for a doe. Keep those kids hunting folks!!! S. azyoung Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Last weekend was the best hunt in my life! Watching my son shoot a nice buck and seeing how proud he was to show his buck to the great people at the youth camp. Great memories and special thanks Stan for your work in the Jr youth camp. I will pledge my support for the youth camps. Thanks!! azyoung
.270 Report post Posted October 31, 2005 if you don't take your kids hunting, why bother going? i guess some guys are too hung up on egos and stuff to let a kid tag along. get em outta town. show em nature. teach em how friendly a campfire is. it's pretty nerve wracking to let your kids take the first shot, and the second and third. but there's no reward quite like watching your kid get their first whatever. now i'm back to takin' my ol' man and trying to make sure he gets a buck every year. but that's ok. i can remember him watching me blow holes in the sky, while he tried to find me another one to shoot at. when i'm a geezer my boys can tote me around. reddog Report post Posted October 31, 2005 I agree, my son is 1.5 years old and one of his first words was "Deer". He points to my coues on the wall and says Deer. Next year my Daughter will be 5 and I can't wait to have her tag along on a hunt. Reddog
Couesi1 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 Stanley, AzGuide et.al. .......... You are correct. You gotta make the effort and get the kids interest and then keep them engaged! There's too many lazy, couch potato parents who would rather fill their kids' time with X-box and a couch! Stanley, your enthusiasm was very evident at the 23 jr's camp. Keep up the good work and continue to be an insiration to your kid and the future. You are quite an ambassador and example for our kids and sportsmen in general. Thanks, c-
az4life Report post Posted November 1, 2005 Again, Stanley comes up as one of the premier leaders in the youth area of hunting and mentoring the next generation of hunters. So much work, and I would Guess the credit he gets is mostly from within. Stanley, Just know that, Many of us appreciate you and your calling to mentor the youth. Thanks for your dedication. coueshunter84 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 I love the fact my oldest asked to be put in for pig this year. But as per my previous post, I wish she had chosen anything but a stickbow to hunt with. LOL. As much as I will enjoy her being out inthe boonies with me. This recurve thing is kicking my tail. I been quizing everyone I know about stick bows, and a few other things. I cant wait to post a pic of her on here with a piggie and her recurve. I hope she can get an arrow into one. She still wants a deer also, but we will work on the pigs first come Janaury. And again thanks for all who lent a helping hand to getting her motivated. She has been shooting about every day now. She is shooting out to 20 yards and keeping all her arrows in the target. ( granted I had to get some arrows that were spined correctly) But she should be maintaining " kill zone" groups by January. ConnXion Report post Posted November 1, 2005 I have two boys that are all about the outdoors and it really does my heart good. My wife loves to go and we make each outing a great family affair. This last weekend my wife had a unit 9 tag that she transferred to my 11 year old son. We put some miles on our boots. We only saw two deer in the glasses all weekend and on Sunday on the way out we came accross a spike and he got to shoot. He missed a little high but what a rush. His attitude was great and when he got to the truck he said dad thats why they call it hunting and not killing. Lets keep these kids in the outdoors. There is no better feeling! I have a 24b late whitetail tag and I will have both of them right by my side. John

stanley Report post Posted November 2, 2005 Hey TKKNC, the youth camps that have been mentioned here are orgainzed the the Arizona Deer Association. We try to set-up a hospitality & information sharing camp in a central location during the Jr. Hunts that the G&F offer. Here is a link to a thread with some more specifics for the 2005 camps; http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index...?showtopic=2126 We have two more left for this year; 12A (Kiabab), and 20C. Let me know if you want more info (or if you want to volunteer to help out...). S.
