silencedmajority Report post Posted November 20, 2010 I know of someone that got a small fine for taking about 1/2 ton of river rock from USFS land. I also know that you can get a permit for some rock, the fee depending on the amount. If you want it from USFS land, I recommend calling your local ranger station and ask to talk to someone about a minerals permit.
GodIsGood Report post Posted December 5, 2010 I built a retaining wall and stone staircase outside my cabin - checked with forest service and they sent me to a rock place in chino valley - a few hours away to purchase stones that didnt match the area where my cabin is located... DUH! They told me though I could lawfully relocate stones from my own property - so that is what I did. More or less we are now trying to finish a wood burning stone area inside the cabin with a traditional river rock look. I found a builders surplus warehouse here in Phx that sells overstock, surplus, scatch an dent building materials of every kind - including tons of fake stone. I found a full crate of river rock for $200. WAY worth the hassle of "relocating" all the rock I needed for the retaining wall and staircase. Dont know if you have such a place in Tucson? good luck! I am sure it will be beautiful!
