Guest super jumbo Report post Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks cpugsie for your time loading the pics. My brother jason is the person that got me into coues deer hunting. He is also the one that taught me how to glass and hunt these deer with such determination. It was nice this year to be able to return the favor by glassing up a few bucks for him to shoot. The hunt started on saturday morning. We glassed some really thick stuff for the whole morning, and the result was a 90 inch buck,an 80 inch buck, 7 does, and 2 black bears. There were several hunters in the area that we saw later that morning, so we decided to head to some more nasty country to glass that we thought might not be getting hunted as hard. We hiked in off a road to some of the biggest canyons you could imagine. I told my brother "this never gets hunted", and later on that day after thrashing thru brush head on for hours we ran across a well used trail going into the country we had just been. It had plenty of foot prints on it, and must have been used by the tribal members for their deer hunt. Wow, the tribal members are tearing this nasty country apart on foot chasing coues deer(hats off to you guys). We decided to go back to the other area that had all the hunters on sunday morning, and glass all day from this one tall knob. We again saw a few deer, some more diff. hunters, and some very pretty country. We decided the next morning to go a little farther down this road and glass from a diff. angle into some thick stuff. At first light i glassed up his buck chowing on his breakfast. I motioned for my brother to come over ,and that i thought i had a 100 inch plus buck.He was over to me in 10 minutes, and as it got lighter out the buck started adding on inches every minute. He looked nice and wide and heavy so we decided to harvest him at 400 yards with rons 300 weatherby. Kaboom, and the rest is history. He has a 19 inch outside spread, and nice mass.We taped him out twice right at 112. This is the widest buck we have ever seen anywhere. All in all it was a fun hunt ,and very beautiful country to be blessed to spend some time in(although low deer densities). Thanks to the san carlos tribe as a whole for allowing us to hunt their lands. Tough hunt !!! Good luck to evryone still hunting.
