standman Report post Posted November 13, 2010 I received a new hand call yesterday and I had to go out this morning and try it out. Called this female in at around two minutes into the stand. Shot her at 18 yards. Her partner just wouldn't come into shotgun range after the shot. I was hoping for the double but no dice. Brian

Ernesto C Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Very Nice! I called in 4 on Friday but they just wouldn't come into shotgun range... What is the max range with your #4 shot? Did you took your shotgun only while calling for predators?? That's a no-no. Ernesto C

standman Report post Posted November 15, 2010 Very Nice! I called in 4 on Friday but they just wouldn't come into shotgun range... What is the max range with your #4 shot? The farthest I have killed a coyote with the #4 shot is 70 yards and he was DRT. I have shot several over 50 and they were also DRT. But I try to keep everything under 40 yards. As of yet I have never had one get away using #4 shot. And I am the same way, have a tendency to only take a shotgun on stands. But I do try to pick spots where I can only see 40 yards or less. I keep thinking I should take a rifle with me because if I happened to call a lion in I would be SOL due to it being illegal to kill one with a shotgun. I just hate carrying two guns. Tonight I went and called a couple spots just for cats. Called one bobcat in to 30 yards but he stayed behind the only thicket of trees where I couldn't shoot. He stayed there for 55 minutes and I tried everything to get him to step out. He only needed to take a couple steps either way and he would have been clear. Finally he walked straight away and left. The whole time all I could see was legs and feet. Broke my heart. Brian
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted November 15, 2010 We went and make a couple stands last weekend, borrowed a FoxPro Fury setup to see if I like what it sounds like. Was disappointed as we came up with not even a yip yap we know you are there response, but had a real good time with my boy. Gonna have to try and get up in some of that burn by Show Low and see if we can't find us some fox. Congrats on the success.......
