nhunter84 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 Well, I took a long weekend from school up here in CO and flew back down to NM to do a coues hunt. I only really had two days to hunt and then had to head out to come back. Anyways, I hunted the first day looking for a good buck and passing on some smaller ones. Never found anything too exciting that day. The next morning we glassed up quite a few bucks and two decent ones but they were way off and moved out of view. We bumped over the ridge and found another buck that was an easy stalk and closer to the truck than where we camped, so I decided to put a stalk on him. I moved around the edge and down the hill and next thing I know he and the does he was with came running underneath me at about 100 yards but I couldnt get a shot because of the brush. I sat down and as soon as they came out of the next little cut my brother ranged him at 167 and I shot. I made a good hit on him and he went right down. Those muzzleloaders do a number on a coues. Couldnt have been happier to shoot an 81" buck and have the experience to share with my dad and brother.

AZantlerhead Report post Posted November 13, 2010 Congrats!! Dandy buck!! I said the same thing about muzzleloaders and coues,,,but I shot one that got away this year at 80yds and left no blood trail, that's after flopping around for 15 min, then he beat feet to the next county..don't overestimate the killing power of a 50. cal ml, or underestimate the toughness of a Coues might save you some grief someday.. Congrats again on your Buck man!! Good Job!
