Congrats on a nice buck. Funny thing, it looks almost like a buck I have been chasing the past two days in 31 for a friends daughter. Only the one we were chasing is a little smaller.

Again, congrats on a very successful hunt.

Holey Smokes! that guy has some mass! I didn't know that there was a nuclear waste dump in 31. :D

I Can't think of anything else that would give em that kind of diameter!

Congratulations!

Yes, the story.

I saw this buck on opening day. I had been watching two other smaller bucks, but when I tried to get closer they had moved. Luckily, a stragler 2-point followed well behind but eventually gave away their location. The bucks had moved over a hill and on to the next hillside. When I saw the bucks again, this buck was now with them. They were 500 yards and moving, so no shot. They finally moved over the next hill and probably were going to bed. Unfortunately, there was no position to gain to try and find them in their beds. So, I just kept looking elsewhere. I saw 13 bucks on opening day.

First thing on the second day, glassing from the same vantage point, I again found the massive 3 x 2. A friend was with me, so we started to move to a shooting point when the buck startled and ran up and over a hill. I don't know what scared the buck, I am pretty sure it was not us. It appeared that he was not happy with something close by. While scouting, I noticed similar behavior with a couple does and they were startled by a coyote. Anyway, the buck was gone.

I had an idea of where he may go and bed, but I continued to glass for other bucks. We saw about 10 bucks, some I had probably seen the day before. My friend had to leave mid-day. After that I moved further up the hill to glass some bucks we had been watching most of the morning. I found them in their beds and about 2:30 the got up and started off. No shooters, so I went to where I thought this buck might be bedded. Sure enough, under the same tree I had seen a different buck bedded the day before, there he was. The shot was about 250 yards. I hit him good on the first shot, but he was just hurt enough to bed back down. I moved down the hill and finished him off with 2 shot to the neck at about 200 yards. Then the work started, I packed him and all my gear out 2 miles back to the truck. Needless to say, today I am beat!!!!!

Enjoy,

Nice buck!! Congratulations!! It's nice to know that there are still some nice bucks and good genetics out there. Hopefully I'll be half as fortunate during my November hunt in the same unit. I don't have a lot of time to be out this year, but with some luck it will be a great hunt. In any case, nice job.
