Use for a Mountain Lion

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

I've been encouraged to get a Mountain Lion tag and I've decided that I will!

Please excuse my ignorance but what does one do with a mountain lion?

Eat the meat? how is it cooked? What is edible?

Preserve the hide and just look at it? OK, I can use a taxidermist for that.

Any suggestions?

Much obliged,

Ace

The best game salami I have had was made with lion.

Like all game meat, do not overcook when grilling some great lion steaks. Makes good fajitas or stir fry also.

Europen the skull. A rug or just a tanned pelt to drape is nice.

So, Jeremy, since you own a meat processing business, will you cut a lion? would you eat it or not?

Personally I would not eat it. I have heard its great but I don't think I got the stomach for it. Its weird enough for me to see an animal of that size as white as a chicken. I think its a mental issue for me. And would I cut it? Yes sir, I would. I have before and would do it again. Bear and lion I just can't imagine eating but to each their own. If you're into new things, shoot, try it.

A few years ago, (2006) I killed my lion in February. That deer season as we had a CWT bbq down south, I made stew with 1/2 elk roast, and 1/2 lion meat. I wouldnt tell everyone what the meat was, but they absolutely loved it and said it was some of the best they had (not knowing it was lion). Of course when I told them they were eatting lion the flipped out but couldnt rave about it enough before hand.

If you dont want the meat I will GLADLY take it off your hands!

Thank you all for the replies. I'll look for lions in 36B while I am looking for the whitetail!

Cheers,

Ace

I have filled 2 lion tags while deer hunting in the past 6 years... Lifesized my first and the one I just got will be a tanned throw... saving the rug mount for when I get a big tom with my bow and dogs. ;) Either way... i have saved more deer than I have ever harvested!! :D ;)
