1st Coues Deer Hunt...San Carlos?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I am headed out Thursday to join my cousin on his first Coues Deer Hunt (It's also mine, but I don't have a tag). Anyways, he won a raffle tag several months back & now gets to hunt the San Carlos. I have hunted a lot of Mule Deer (or as some call them,"Carp"), Pronghorn, & Elk, so I am about to find out what the big hoopla is over what I call "Midget Deer"!

Wish us luck & I will post up some pictures, if we are successful...

Hunting coues deer is no diff than hunting mule deer, you just have to stare at the same spot in your binos twice as long to see them. If you see a buck on the carlos , and you cant get him the first time, dont worry he will be there the next day in or around where you saw him prevoiusly.Except this time he will be buried in the thick stuff. Coues deer are very very predictable most of the time, with exception to the rut. Good luck to you guys on your hunt!

My cousin shot a nice buck on the first morning of his hunt. It's not a huge buck, but it's not bad for two ROOKIES!!! I will, or Brandon will post up some pictures when we get time. I am editing video & sending it off for approval. The San Carlos Tribe must approve it, before I can post it on our YouTube Channel. We will post it ASAP!!!

I will say, the animals on the San Carlos are not pressured like public land stuff & that his Coues Buck is probably the most BEAUTIFUL creature that I have ever seen on the ground. :o

Thanks,

Craig Steele
