30A saftey and questions?

Recommended Posts

Bought a leftover tag in 30A for Thanksgiving weekend (November 26-Dec 2) for Whitetail and just figured what the heck. I guess there is a lot of private land and probably the reason there are left over tags. I was wondering just how safe this unit is? Where should I stay away from and is the any parts of this unit that will be any safer than others from the border crossers and smugglers, or are they kind of all over? I planned on staying towards the Northern part of the unit.

Two people that were supposed to go on this hunt with me will not be able to go after all. May have a couple buddies headin out with me but only time will tell as of now. I REALLY hate to be that guy that asks where the deer are and where to hunt so I'll just ask where I should stay away from in case I wind up there by myself. PM me if you'd rather, I can keep a secret and am very loyal ;)

Does anybody else have this hunt? Where will you be camping? Need another camper? ;)

I have no problem hunting on my own if needed but when it comes to border units I always worry. I am sure I'll figure something out when I get up there as far as the deer.

Thank you!

Howdy. I hunted javelina in 30A last year and it seemed like a very safe unit. From Bowie I took Apache Pass to Happy Camp Canyon and camped at the base of the rocky foothills near the picnic site. There was no sign of illegals or smuggling or anything like that. My only complaint was how windy it was. Make sure your tent is well staked.

As for deer, I glassed up a buck and doe from the big rocks right of the road. Hope this helps.

First off Welcome to the site! That's good to hear about no traffic. Hopefully I don't run into any trouble.

Thank you for the info.
