CumminsRig Report post Posted November 1, 2010 In Sept while on an elk hunt with my buddies we were glassing on top of a big pile of rocks. Long story short my Pentax 20x60 and tripod took about a 10 to 12 foot fall and the binos landed on a rock with the left eye cup taking the brunt of the fall. The lefty eye cup was broke and the tripod came out with a broke leg clamp and a bent leg. After a little messing with the eye cup I was able to get them focused and continued to use them for another day and a half before they finally gave it up. When I got home I emailed Pentax telling them exactly what had happened to see if it was worth sending them in to get them fixed and to get a rough estimate. Pentax emailed me back telling me to send them in with original purchase reciept if they were bought after Jan 1 1990 and they would be under warranty if it looked like they were not abused. I noticed the address that I was told to ship them to was in Chandler. I called them to see if I could just drop them off since they were in the Valley. Also while I was on the phone with them I told them I did not have the original purchase reciept as I had bought the binos 10 years ago, he asked me if I was the orignal owner and I told him yes. I had the wife drop them off a couple days later they told her it would be 2 to 4 weeks. 2 1/2 weeks later I get a phone call saying my binos are done and I can come pick them up. I was still expecting to pay for the repair. The wife went and picked them up a couple days later and they did not charge me a thing. I am very pleased with the customer service Pentax gave me and how nice they were with my wife at the repair facility. Keep in mind I never registered the Binos when I bought them as I was 16 yrs old and did not care about that back then. I paid like $230 for these binos back then and I fully expected to either have to pay for the repair or for Pentax laugh at me especially since I told them it was my fault.
