Ashlen's last day buck

Recommended Posts

This Jr only hunt was fantastic. Forrest shot a great buck on opening morning. I wanted to have Ashlen shoot first, but Forrest spotted his buck and wanted to take a crack at it. His pics are posted under "More success". Ashlen was happy for her brother, but she was ready for her turn. We didn't get a chance to hunt Friday evening but hunted all day Saturday. She had a tough shot at a nice buck but didn't connect. We thought she was done for the season because school for her started Monday morning. She wanted to get back out there bad, but my work schedule and her school made it difficult. My friend Kyle was able to break away for a couple hours on Wednesday evening and saw a small buck, but light ran out before Ashlen could find the deer in the scope. She wanted one more chance, so Thursday I picked her up as school got out at 3:20, and with Kyle we raced out to see what we could do. We ended up seeing 3 bucks together, but they must have caught wind of us as we were moving in. As we saw them topping out over a distant hill, my hope for success was dashed. We looked on another close by ridge and spotted another deer. It was a buck, so we slipped back over the hill away from his line of sight and moved in. When we peeked over, he was right where we had last seen him. Ashlen got set up and made a perfect 325 yard shot. He didn't go down right away, so she put him down for good with another perfect shot. Here are a few pics of her buck and one of Forrest's. I'm so proud of my kids, I can't put it into words. Next year, it will be Karlie's turn. Thanks to AZGFD for providing these quality hunts for our youth!!! My kids loved it.
