This fall will be my 1st time hunting Coues, I hear they're pretty tricky to hunt...any pointers?

 

also...

 

I'll be hunting on Fort Huachuca, is anyone familar with the area that might recommend where to start looking? I'm going to start scouting this weekend.

main thing is to hunt where there ain't no soldiers. ;) that's all i know about fort loud sneeze. good luck tho. Lark

and just to let people know the dragoon mountains are about 40 + miles north east of fort huachuca the ones on fort would be the huachuca mountains

I heard it was like a U.S soldier guided hunt on a fenced military base...provided by uncle sam....sounds good, i guess they don't want umm there they just got fenced in when they built it..just what I've heard... even tell ya wich deer to shoot.. :huh: . Best wishes, I'm sure it will be a good hunt whatever the case. :)

 

Does Hauchuca have any Coues deer?

Lol I can't tell if that last post is serious or not. Yah its fenced its got 4 strand barbed wire all the way around it. And a few cwt "stuck" inside.

Late response, but how did your hunt turn out? I'm new to the area and hope to get some info on hunting on post.

I have a friend that hunts in there every year with his two kids. They fill their tags every year. There are plenty of coues on base, he says it is like a game preserve. There is a game biologist on post there and he is very helpful, anything you get with any weapon needs to be checked in with him.

Glad to hear they've done well in this unit. From what I've gathered from this site and information on post, as you said, there are plenty of coues to hunt there. Very reassuring for a first time coues hunter. Now I've just got to get some good optics and learn the country.
