Glassed this at 0756 AM in 33 with my son on his youth hunt. Was with a small 2X2 about 15 yards to the right. They were about 750 yards out, walked right about 150 yards then away from us and over a ridge line. We will get back on them tonight from another angle to try and get closer.

More pics from day 2. They moved up and left out of range so we got on the hoofed it up the opposite hillside to try to get above hem and re-glass them. Just as I'm getting the tripod deployed my son glasses them in the 10X50s, gulp, we're close. Then says they are looking right at us! "Freeze" yep, one of the big ones is looking right at us. Then looks away and doesn't act alarmed. Range 250 just as I move to get him in a final firing position the little 3X3 starts trotting up and right, away from us! the 2 big ones follow suit before he could get a shot.

Super exciting, and he was pretty cool under fire considering 2 of the 3 3X3s were way bigger than my biggest! On is still mostly in velvet.

In hind sight we were way too exposed and they were looking right at us. Stupid mistake, should have stayed further back in the cover and scanned with the small binos before breaking out the 15s. Just didn't figure we made up that much ground on them that fast.

They never flagged and just trotted off at the same time they went to bed down yesterday. So I hope they aren't spooked too much! Back on them early in the morning! It's a tough hike in, but well worth it!

Later,

Matt
