elmandi Report post Posted October 7, 2010 This year my son and I were drawn for 17b, its been 14 years since ive hunted this unit any help or advice would be greatly apreciated. We scouted the west side of the unit off of Tonto road saw 8 doe, the scary thing was most of the water holes were empty. We scouted the east side of the Unit near Camp Wood (off roads 702 and 705)and saw 3 doe.
buglethemin Report post Posted October 8, 2010 keep up with the scouting the areas you mentioned are both good. I took my daughter in that unit on her first Jr deer hunt and we had a blast. The tonto rd area is good but lots of private property. A little south of tonto rd is ferguson valley rd. from that road there are plenty of small two track quad trails to get away from the private prop and will lead you into good glassing country on the national forest. On our scouts prior to the hunt we only found does but stayed in those areas during the hunt and found the bucks. Good luck, Jr hunts are the best.
