xwingstyle Report post Posted October 4, 2010 Long time reader first time poster. Went scouting 36A this weekend. Saw some nice options but didn't see any deer. I was able to obtain Oct 22-28 tags (I think i know why they were easy to get). Never desert hunted but many moons in the mid-west hunting white. Any tips would be a great help. I can offer up some Club seats at a cardinals game of your choice if i can get on some good info. Thanks guys.
stanley Report post Posted October 4, 2010 Welcome to the site!!!!! Love 36A!! Plenty of deer there..... If you've never hunted the desert, then that's likely why you didn't see any. You'll figure it out though! I'll send you a PM. No Cards tickets necessary! S.
W.O.T Report post Posted October 5, 2010 My son, brother and I all have tags in 36A for the same hunt. Our main concern is this heat... it sucks gettin out there before the crack of dawn in rattlesnake/UDI infested territory and then hearing a constant "neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" in my ear! Just hopin we can find one for my 13 yr old to get a shot at. The weeds are definitely getting taller! good luck
xwingstyle Report post Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the PM's. Going to head back down this week and check out some more locations. Also picked up a mountain lion tag - any luck seeing them around? Again thanks for the info.
roninflag Report post Posted October 5, 2010 i can not say anything about hunting the unit 36a. however hunting coues whitetail - ( usually ) involves hiking up a very rugged mountian in the dark. sitting down glassing with a "good" (1K+) pair of binos and then shooting as soon as you see a buck. often a fairly long shot . this is my experience. sorry if you this is not what you were asking. COOSEFAN Report post Posted October 5, 2010 My 36a experience is limited, but like has been said before, find a spot to gain as much elevation as possible and glass. Probably the best advice is to have patience! I would try my best to position myself so that I'm facing South looking into North facing slopes, even if its small drainages in the flats, anywhere that is shaded most of the day is a great spot to find a buck! Have patience and stay confident, there are bucks there even if you don't see em' at first. The patience part comes in handy when you've sat there all day and the other hunters that weren't patient enough start moving around. Those hunters will push deer, knowingly and unknowingly, around and possibly in front of you. Best of luck and welcome to the site, make sure to post the story of your hunt! vegasjeep Report post Posted October 6, 2010 There are plenty opf deer in 36a. Head to arivaca, go through and the big hill with the "A" on it will let you see plenty of deer and net you a 90" or bigger buck. Seen quite a few this past couple of days
