coues addict Report post Posted October 6, 2005 I finally got my first elk. I have only been lucky enough to draw one other Az. elk tag in the last 14 years. I was only able to hunt the first 2 and 1/2 days and the last 3 and 1/2 days. My wife and I had to take our youngest daughter and all her stuff to college. Man, am I getting old!! He isn`t near as big as Azhuntnut or Brett`s bull but I did the best that I could. I came really close on opening day to getting a shot at a huge bull. I could have stuck a raghorn at 28.5 yards, but I elected to pass on the first day. I saw 2 other big bulls but could not make a shot happen. On the second trip I only saw cows and a small spike and was seriously doubting if I would even get a shot opportunity. I decided to sit water on the next to last day in the evening and this bull came in around 6.15p.m. and presented a 35yard shot. I shot a little high and spined him, he dropped in his tracks, I was totally shocked and I quickly put another arrow in him, he died pretty Quickly! I was really stoked and I see now what a Rush archery elk hunting is. Man there just isn`t the words. My pics came out really dark so I hope you can see them. He`s not huge but He`s mine and I gotta start somewhere. Rich P.S. I would like to thank my buddy Coues-n-it and my brother in law Mike for all there great help. I don`t think it would have happened without it!!!

Tucson John Report post Posted October 7, 2005 Great job Buddy! Any Bull with a bow is a trophy! I'm as proud of my 323 Bull as anything I've ever done. I also spined my Bull, but he did not die so quick. I was so keyed up I put 4 more arrows in him at point blank range because I was scared to death that he would get up and run off. What an adrenilin rush! My huntin partner showed up and told me he was done. I had one more arrow! Enjoy your sucsess! TJ
