Juniors Unit 10 hunt

Recommended Posts

Well, normally I don't like to make posts asking for help. However, it looks like I will be the one taking my nephew on his youth deer hunt in Unit 10 this year and I would love to be able to get him on a deer. I have spent time in the unit, but typically looking for elk and don't really know where the deer are. Just wondering if anyone has hunted this unit during the youth hunt. Only 100 tags, so I don't expect it to be too crowded. Are there places to avoid due to hunting pressure? He doesn't mind hiking and gets around pretty good in the woods. Plus he isn't picky and just hopeful he gets to see a buck during the season.

I am by no means an expert at unit 10, but between scouting and hunting I've spent over 30 days out there this summer and saw a grand total of 4 deer! Two bucks and two does and both bucks were no brainer shooters. On top of that I think my trail cameras only got 4 or 5 pic's of deer as well. For the most part my time was all spent in the northern half of the unit. I'm sure there are some good trophys up there on the north end, but the numbers are very low. For a juniors hunt I'd stay further south where there are better numbers of deer.

Well, we didn't have much luck last weekend. Saw a bunch of elk but only 3 does. No bucks that we saw. My nephew did get to bag his first coyote. Hopefully we will see more this weekend. Anyone else seeing any deer in Unit 10? We wll have to try and stay away from all those cow elk hunters this weekend!
