EBB Report post Posted September 8, 2010 The wife and I took a road trip to Idaho then went on to Jackson (Gand Teton) and Yellowstone. I was intrigued by the buffalo and took quite a few pictures. It was the closest I'd beento them since my Houserock hunt in 1983. I really didn't get what I wanted photowise but that's the way it goes sometimes. On the way back we decided to visit the North rim because neither of us had ever been there. No more than a mile in I got just what I missed in Yellowstone. There were 157 in this herd. AntlerObsession Report post Posted September 8, 2010 Hardly a more inspiring sight, reminiscent of simpler times when buffalo were present throughout the west.
DesertBull Report post Posted September 8, 2010 Holy crap. If I knew they would still be there in October, I would buy a tag.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted September 9, 2010 DB, If you have the first rifle deer hunt, it may be a good idea to hunt the fenceline and tanks the first days of the deer hunt.

Snapshot Report post Posted September 9, 2010 Nice pics. To find the animals in Yellowstone, just look for the traffic jams on the roads Jackson Hole and the Tetons are very beautiful, epsecially when it snows and the trees are turning. Sounds like you had a great road trip. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted September 10, 2010 Looks like quite the sight and must have created a nice traffic jam also.

EBB Report post Posted September 10, 2010 Thanks Guys, I need to tell you that the "Parkies" are telling everyone that these a "Beefalo" not Bison or Buffalo. Now probably somewhere from around 100 years or so ago they do have some cattle genes. I''l bet anything they're saying this to set the stage for eradication efforts. I have absolutely no proof of this but I watch how our Government operates these days. While I was photographing them they were feeding closer to the road and I finally took the 800mm lens off and went to my 70-200. This Park Service vehicle pulls up and tells everyone that they are getting too close and are about to become aggressive. They order us back into our vehicles. I had my vehicle between me and the herd. I've no doubt that if I had argued with the Gal she would have cited me. None of the animals were pawing the ground or showing anything close to agression. I was closer than this to them on my hunt in 83. I'm really getting tired of Officials that want to make all of my decisions for me! EBB PS there are lots more photo's of buffalo from this day and one 6x6 bull from Yellowstone along with 3 moose. I'll post more photo's if people want to see them
Snapshot Report post Posted September 10, 2010 I have been up in Yellowstone country all summer, but have only been into the park 2 times. July set a record in the amount of tourist entries at around 975,000. The road construction going on between Madison and Norris Junctions has made it harder. But I will be going in every weekend thru the end of the month now that the tourist herd has thinned out considerably. Post those other pics if you can. bstpeter Report post Posted September 10, 2010 Not sure how much faith you put into Wikipedia but it looks like most or almost all the American Bison have been genetically cross bread. Some interesting information on this site things I have never really thought to look up and read about in detail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Bison#Comeback

He was responsible for bringing bison to Arizona. Bill Quimby
DesertBull Report post Posted September 11, 2010 Funny that the tofu crowd are quick to point out that the buffalo are not genetically pure, but never will admit to the wolves having the same trait.
