Gear

Packing gear for one week - two week hunt

Ok guys the elk hunt is almost in full swing (and once again no tag for me 7 yrs but guiding friends and family is fun to).

CWT is getting a new post every min a comment on posts every second great stuff (I love it makes my day at work bearable thank you all)

So the Coues bow hunts are over in two days. Rifle hunts are around the corner; everyone is checking and rechecking trail cams. We all have been to the shooting range 4 to 5 times already and probably going 5 -10 more times.

So the thing that looms in the back of my mind is what is my gear situation, what am I going to bring and does my hunting buddy have every thing he needs.

Three years ago I came up with a list for him and I to fill in around this time and start filling in the blanks as the days get closer. Here is our list please understanded my hunting partner is also my cousin and we are first generation Italian so our food selection may seem weird (LOL)

I leave all my stuff in my pack. Knives, lights, tripods, radios, rope, batteries, hearing protection. I have my cot, bed roll, sleeping bag, and liner in a large ruffle bag. All my stuff is always packed and always in the same spot. I might end up haulin a lil extra in my pack but its always there, everytime. Get a cooler and some food and a case of water. I take all my huning clothes to and from the field in he same bag. They go from the washing mahine back in the bag. It works well for me, i hate forgetting things. My only checklist is gun, ammo, and tag. I i forget something i learn the hard way, and remember.

I can't believe Skoal didn't make Larks "kit."

Extra box of ammo, 10x42 binos, license, tag, rope, knives, saw, two headlamps, small plastic tarp (rain cover, ground cover for cleaning), zip ties, first aid kit, duct tape, pistol with extra mag, water bladder, rain coat, beanie, snacks, gloves, truck/quad keys, GPS, batteries, Radio, map, note book, and pencils, fire starter kit, scents (that like to spill out of the bottle and baggie. My 2200 pack smells like a hot cow right now <_< ) I know I'm forgetting something in there though.

Camp, either the wall tent or the trailer. Bedding, cot, pad, canvas bedroll with a couple wool blankets and two pillows.

Food, is ussually something quick like canned soup, but steaks or stew that slowly makes all day is great too. Breakfast is skipped for me a lot of the time or else I'm nausiated most of the day. Lunch, lunchables, or sandwich of some kind. If we're hunting down in 32 we snag a few burritos from the mexican food place in town.

and of course, my cell phone which might as well be glued to my hand.
