Anybody here ever used the Gunclaw???

Recommended Posts

I was seeing if anybody here ever used the gun claw? I have been doing some research on a bipod or tripod system and came across the Gun Claw. Anybody here using this system? I would really like some feedback. I would hate to spend $120 and find out that it was a waste of money. I use my backpack most of the the time to shoot, however sometimes the backpack doesn't allow me to lift my rifle high enough to make the shot. I just was thinking if this setup really works I may have to take it on my hunt in December. Thanks for any info...

Several people here have used it and love it. The one thing to keep in mind is that you need a really good tripod head so that you don't have any wiggle in the plate that slides into the tripod. If you go to the claw website you can see the tripod they recommend.

i have used it, and it is great. I had my son shoot off of it last year. He was 11yo and shot his first deer at 286 yards. (Heart, double lung) It isnt magic, trigger and breath control are still very important, and like Amanda said, you will need a good tripod setup.

I was in the same boat. The areas I hunt are very steep so I would almost never be able to shoot of a bipod or a pack. I own the gun claw. I have not taken any game with it but I have been shooting off it at every time I go out to practice. Its worlds better than shooting sticks along, but if you use the sticks under the buttstock and the claw its rock solid. I head is a 128rc mannfotto and the tripod is a vortex timber line. I also hunt out of a backpack.

I have the claw and love it. Made a 370 yard shot on a Mule Deer buck last year. Your best bet if you buy one is to also get the head and plates that Cade also sells. It's a great head and I use it when I am glassing too. I also bought extra plates, so my Binos, Spotting scope and the Claw, all have there own plates, so you don't have to take them off and switch them, Take Care, JLG.

I was looking on the gun claw sight but cannot find what type of tripod they use or head that is reccomended. I use a Carbon Fiber Velbon EL Carmagne530 This set up does not use any plates just unscrew and set. I was thinking of just getting a second tripod for this system. I know carrying extra weight in my pack would suck but I like to have a spotter when shooting at any range just to make sure my shot placement is right. What small and steady tripod do you guys recommend. Would a monfrontto 3001 be ok? Also what head would be best for my gun, my gun weighs almost 11lbs. Pretty heavy for a small tripod.

They'll have a new site up before too long... will have all of the information you need, but in the mean time, talk with Cade and he'll set you up right.

Cade will take care of you.

The 701HDV head is the way to go. I use the Bogen Neotec 458B tripod, best in the world, bar none. Might need a mule to pack it, though. Lots of good carbon fibers on the market now, that what I would go with.

I'll take the liberty of putting up a few Claw pics, I think Cade is in the field.

This thing rocks. It has improved our clients shooting percentage dramatically, is easy to carry, and heck, I like big tripods anyway!

With a full set of plates, the 15's, 10's, spotter, rangefinder, vid cam, digital cam and rifle all interchange on the tripod in a couple of seconds.

The first one is way back in the day, a claw prototype and my wifes first Coues buck.

Yes, Cade did get back to me. He said I should wait till the end of Sept for the new model that they are coming out with. I can wait, my hunt is not until Dec. I just have to find another tripod that I can fit in my pack know that can handle my heavy gun. I don't know if I can spare the extra money buying another carbon fiber tripod just for the claw. Anybody have a good tripod they want to part with for not so much money...JK, Thanks for all the reply's and photo's.

I bought it a year ago and was amazed at how steady you can be with it. I used it on my mule deer hunt and had to take the shot at 450 yards. I put my rifle in the claw and got ready for the shot. I was amazed at how steady it was. I was sitting indian style and I could keep the cross hairs on the vitals with ease. I kept it right on his shoulder and he dropped in his tracks. There is still a little side to side movement and you have to control your breathing as well as a good trigger squeeze but it is the best thing I have used to shoot off of beside being prone. If you buy it you won't regret it. IMO
