Not a Coues buck

Well I have no giant coues buck photos from my archery hunt but did get a chance to photograph another one of my favorite AZ critters.

I believe the ones in the photo are Greater Short-Horned lizards while the one in my old im not too sure about.

He was in 36A a few years ago. Anybody know more about the genus Phrynosoma specific to AZ?

Not as good of a close-up here, but my son caught this little critter on our annual camping trip to Utah this year..... Always fun to find a couple of them!

 

When I was a kid growing-up, if/when we would come across one, one of our favorite things to do was to take it to an ant-hole, set it down, and watch it gobble the ants down! Cheap thrills for a young kid, I suppose.... ;)

Nice shots!

 

I think the last one youngbuck posted is a Regal Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma solare). Very cool...I've never seen one before.

 

Attached is a good reference to the horned lizards of North America.

 

Here's a Greater Short-horned from CO.

You know whats funny, when im out stalking the woods nowadays i will still drop everything im doing to catch them and take them to an ant hole and watch them eat lol

AZbowhntr and I were turkey hunting a few years back and we came across literally hundreds of little guys running around the mountain.
