hunter1026 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 I am a pretty experienced archer but recently I can help but punch my trigger or make a good shot.it seems like I rush the shot off. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I know there are some release aids that can help but don't know what there is or if they will help me
TwoGuns Report post Posted August 27, 2010 maybe try controlling your breathing as you get ready to shoot. Sometimes it helps to focus on something like that to take your mind off of thinking about the shot. Are you shooting a new setup? Your experience should tell you practice makes perfect. more practice = more confidence = less panic ... maybe. good luck, hope you get it figured out. QCwtAddict Report post Posted August 27, 2010 Blank bale shooting like kaffer62 suggested would be a good idea. But if you dont have a large enough target just get close to your target and practice lightly pulling the trigger, make sure you will not miss the target but you dont need to focus on hitting a specific spot. The point is to get a feel of what a perfect shot (not punching the trigger) feels like. Shoot like that for a week or so then move back and practice shooting like normal without punching the trigger. If you dont want to go through that process then when you practice just try not to pull your trigger right when you get your pin on the target, that is most peoples problem with target panic. Try to hold the pin on the dot and set your finger on the trigger then slowly pull so that you do not know when it will go off. I hope this makes sense and helps. Tines Report post Posted August 27, 2010 Blank bale works great but sometimes you have to pull the sight completely off. The problem is you're focusing on a certain point or target/pin as opposed to everything else. My first robin hood arrow came at 25yrds without a sight while trying to overcome target panic. Granted, I had a pretty big target to shoot into but that's whats going to work. It sucks, but you'll get through it..... Good luck! PM me if you have any questions... youngbuck Report post Posted August 27, 2010 I used to be a puncher. I stopped aiming and focused on the squeeze. (same as kaffer) I shot like 15/20 yeards only for a while. Once I fixed my habit, I started aiming again, and "float my pin over the target. If i havent shot in a while my punching comes back. As soon as I notice it, I can easily fix it now. bowhunter4life Report post Posted August 27, 2010 draw your bow, settle your pin on the target, close your eyes, keep everything the same, count backward from 10 as you do. rest your finger on the trigger and start to apply pressure between 5 and 1. your eyes should be shut while counting. the bow will go off without you knowing, this has worked great in the past. TEAM JESUS Report post Posted August 28, 2010 You could also by a spring trigger release or a standsloski type release. These type of releases help you control punching the release since you never know when they go off. Your forced to concentrate on the target.
