briant_az Report post Posted August 25, 2010 I have only been hunting big game now for about 4 years. Last year I was finally lucky enough to shoot my first deer. It was a fork horned mulie but to me it was one of the best days of my life. Then in January I was lucky enough to shoot a javelina. The deer i shot with a rifle but the pig I shot with my bow. Anyway to make a long story short I have been on cloud nine since I shot two animals in a matter of months. I had the hunting bug before but now it is really bad. So I went out today and spotted a buck and decided to try to get a shot at him. I snuck around the hill where he and two other bucks were but when I finally saw them it was the smaller of the two big bucks that was closest to me. Being that I have never shot a deer with a bow, and never have shot a whitetail I decided that he was good enough. I drew back and shot and completely missed. Oh I think I am going to be sick! I have no idea what happened but it was windy and when I ranged him he was 50 yards. By the time I was able to shoot he had taken a couple of steps and I think he was just farther away than I thought. All I know is I am totally obsessed with getting a whitetail this year. I never could understand why you guys have such an obsession with these tiny little deer but now I know!

Pine Donkey Report post Posted August 25, 2010 The support group, for the addiction, meets on Wednesdays. We don't have a 12 step process, it's more of a 12 month type of thing...but it doesn't seem that many members ever make it out. Sort of a lifelong affliction. AntlerObsession Report post Posted August 25, 2010 Dude, you just wrote my story! 4 years ago, my wife asks her brothers to take me along hunting so we cam bond, get to know each other better. They lend me one of their old bows, I get a Jan javelin tag, and go shoot my first big game. 2 months later, my wife is asking her brother,"Please stop taking my husband hunting. He's obsessed!" ... and I still am!!
