slopoke36 Report post Posted August 19, 2010 There seems to be a negative “theme” going to the hunting the community as of late. I would like to point out the fact that hunting is about the memories you create and share with friends and family. We seem to be getting caught up in the turf wars, whose tree stand was there first and wait that is my trail camera! My ol’man use to tell me that it is about the experience and not about “sacking’em up”. It is nice to get a deer, elk or whatever. But, was it a waste of time if we don’t? Times have changed and there will always be knuckleheads and bad apples but don’t let it get the best of you. Good hunters adapt to their game and sometimes that means changing where we hunt and maybe how we hunt because of other people not just game. I hate to see people getting discourage and even quit hunting over silly stuff. It is up to us to set the example and be good sportsman. Lets talk about good stuff like tomorrow! CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 19, 2010 I agree, there are so many great memories made during a hunt and many of them don't involve the actual harvest. Some pics that hold some great hunting memories for me....

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 19, 2010 Amanda, That last picture does not look like a "great" memorie to me! LOL It looks flipp'n cold! hehehe, yeah, it wasn't supposed to rain or snow and so we didn't pack a tent in on that hunt. Of course it rained and snowed and made for a very memorable night. It's one of those times that is a lot more fun when you remember it than when you are in it!!
Healy Arms Report post Posted August 19, 2010 Amanda, That trip in the snow was a bit cold, but man was it a good hunt! I recall we glassed up a great Coues buck just east of that location and a big lion just west of it. Martin G. came out to join us for a day too. We were right in the middle of it! That walk uphill every morning over perfectly round ankle-buster rocks wasn't my idea of a good time--but looking back, it wasn't so bad either. Good times, Mark Healy

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 19, 2010 The first picture is awesome! That was on a backpack hunt where I was alone and hiking back out to get more food and supplies. I was desperately exhausted and not feeling very good. But I saw that sunset and was duly impressed!! I was trying to hike out before dark and took a "shortcut" (which of course was longer and harder than the original way)....but at least I got to see that sunset! BigB Report post Posted August 21, 2010 Watching my 8 year old son learn to love the sport is the best thing in the world. We need to slow down and enjoy. My grand father use to tell me that we were out to enjoy the hunt, not to just kill.
bonecollector Report post Posted August 21, 2010 Those are some nice pics. For me its just about great memories with family and friends in the field, the harvest is just a bonus. WE all as sportsman just need to stick together. Happy hunting this year!
bowhuntaz1 Report post Posted August 21, 2010 This pic made me think of a little song. I'm going to shoot you in the butt with a BB gun, Lay there in the tall grass and laugh at what I've done, put a big black blister upon each bun, I'm going to shoot you in the butt with a BB gun... LOL!! is this a song you just made up or is it something we should know?? That pic is Grong waiting a nice buck to step out...it never did. That was about the only place we could get him set up prone for the long shot. I thought it looked pretty cool.
MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 21, 2010 I have come to love the great outdoors and especially hunting but, the memories and stories around the camp fire have and will always leave a imprint in my mind. Lately, I have seen fellow sportsman just give up on what they love so much, and over so many dumb reasons too. I have seen my buddy Shawn sell almost all of his hunting equipment simply because a other hunter was using his tree stand and his hunting area one day, and that's not how it should work. You can't just give up now. You have to think of the next generation folks. It is our job to preserve this resource we call mother nature. I will never give up on the greatest thing in my life. I plan on teaching my children all about hunting, as my father did for me. I know they will have just as much respect for the outdoors as I do, and when I get old and can't drive, they will be taking me hunting, fishing, camping, and even hiking and showing me what mother earth has taught them. cw4192 Report post Posted August 21, 2010 I agree 100%. The times in the hills and around the fire are alot more than the "KILL". Its lesson's learned and good times. As I get older its good to see the young get up at oh dark 30 and go hunt. Too many GUIDES and city people hunting these days and they think that the National forrest is theirs. That is why off road vhicles are gonna be outlawed. Mule's and Horse's before too long
Chef Report post Posted August 21, 2010 Hunting for me has become more of "helping" as of late. LOL Although I really do enjoy just being in hunting camp and exploring Gods creation as we look for game.
