slopoke36 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 I know you can eat predators. But should you? My buddy said bobcat is good and I have an issue with that statement.

MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 17, 2010 I never ate bobcat, but I don't see any reason why not to eat one.
huntingfool Report post Posted August 17, 2010 Bobcat is good. Coyote is not very good. Predators are made of meat too, just 'cause most people don't eat 'em doesn't mean you shouldn't. It's merely a social constraint. Most cultures eat dog and bugs, they aren't keeling over dead from it. As long as you cook it well like you would pork you aren't in any danger. Heat kills all bacteria and parasites, after that you just have the meat. It is my opinion that Americans in particular have many social constraints about food that leads to a lot of waste. We'll turn our noses up at a lot of things that a hungry man in another part of the world would gladly eat for nourishment. Mexican food is an easy example to understand; most Americans wouldn't even try eating lengua (tongue), tripas (intestine) or menudo (contains tripe, joints, feet etc) but all the mexicans love it. And for good reason, it's all delicious. Our neighbors to the south are culinary geniuses, but that is another topic altogether. I'm convinced you could wrap a dirty sock up in a tortilla with guacamole and pico de gallo and it would taste good
slopoke36 Report post Posted August 17, 2010 Good point huntingfool, I just have a hard time getting over the fact that it is a cat species. I am sure if cooked right it might in deed taste good. I am not going to find out anytime soon. Thanks for the info guys I was trying to see what most people thought about it before I continued to argue with my buddy about it. joeybari Report post Posted August 17, 2010 I have eaten mnt lion and it was not bad at all but not something I would actively seek. On a different note were my parents are from horse is a very common dish as a mater of fact I have had it more then once and I will tell you its similar if not better then elk. In most country’s not much goes to waste. And my family is not from some backward country.
Browning'sCustomMeat Report post Posted August 17, 2010 Not sure I could choke it down. Any type of cat makes my cringe...just the fact thats its white meat....just don't seem right unless it had feathers! hahahaha!! but to each their own. I've heard friends tell me its good. Just don't have the guts to eat it. I have ate horse...once. It was good, just different, different psychologically. -Jeremy-

.270 Report post Posted August 17, 2010 you eat pigs and chickens don't ya? they'll eat anything. i ain't gonna go outta my way to eat a bobcat, but if you want to, go ahead. i saw a photo and story of a guy eatin' a bear on this site today. i've had lion and it's ok. i've had bear that was ok too. had some that was awful too. when i was a kid we cooked some coyote on a stick over a fire. a coyote we'd trapped several days before and skinned and was layin' by the barn. it was worse than it sounds. i'd rather eat a shoe or own a 7mm/08 than eat coyote again. i saw some guys eatin' monkey on tv once. that's too much for me. looked a lot like a couple guys on this site. the monkeys anyway. if ya wanna eat predators, i'm all for it. if "you" want to. gauchoand Report post Posted August 18, 2010 One time in Uruguay at night I saw a dog kill this cat in the middle of the street. After the dog had left a man came down out of one of the houses picked up the cat and took it inside. Now Im not sure if it was his cat or not but being the section of town I was in I dont think so. Im sure people all over the world eat it. Its just not my cup of tea...
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 18, 2010 Once served my mountain lion at a CWT get together... everybody snickered at eating a "feline"... they changed their tune after eating it. Huntingfool has made some of his world famous bobcat tacos for me and they were quite tasty... I was hesitant at first, but it was good stuff. However, I DID draw the line at eating coyote. That is something I wouldnt do.
huntingfool Report post Posted August 18, 2010 However, I DID draw the line at eating coyote The problem with coyote meat is a very strong taste, quite similar to gasoline. This will prevent me from dining on coyote in the future.
