200"mulie Report post Posted August 13, 2010 ok so a buddy and i got oct. whitetail hunt, but haven't been here for 11 years. I heard that a ranch has sold and some access points have changed. azgfd hunt report gave me little knowledge on some areas. Last time we hunted this area we hunted around fort grant. Been up last couple days looking at maps and google scratching my head. I'm going scouting this weekend putting up couple cams as well. Just seeing if i can get some insight on which would be better to scout desert canyons or up in the pine?? I'm thinking about around turkey flat. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! thank you, 200"mulie
mattys281 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 I've done some backpacking up in the Pinalenos & don't think I'd go that road for a rifle hunt. There's deer up there for sure, but not much visibility to glass. Seems more like treestand & salt country to me. I have glassed up some nice bucks south of 266, but only in January, don't know what it'd be like in Oct.
mnorth Report post Posted August 16, 2010 I had a mule deer tag in 31 last season, and I got to use it! I did glass up 4 whitetail bucks. 3 of them were around Cottonwood Canyon, they were all together. One around Cedar Mtn.
200"mulie Report post Posted August 16, 2010 thanks guys. ya i am starting to remember (after driving down 366 and 266) that we mainly hunted off south of 266, but to hunt them you gotta get down and work your way in canyons if you didn't spot them feeding. Didn't see any deer on the weekend but put up a camera and hope for the best. We didn't see much track up top of the mountains were it was cool, so got me thinking that there still low. it looked like that it had bunch of rain this summer, everything is green. thanks again guys and hopefully i can post some pictures
