MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I purchased my (all black) XD40 in August of 2008, and it's the best handgun I have ever owned. I take superior care of it but now I noticed that it is getting a little scratched up on the muzzle and the black is a little rubbed off after hundred or draws from the holster and thousands or rounds through it. I love this gun so much that it hurts me to see cosmetic scratched on it. I know it still shoot excellent and will never jam but it still hurts even though it show age and personality . Does anyone feel the same pain that I do when your favorite firearm gets scratched?
DesertBull Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I'll give you $50 for it...scratches and all.
MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 LMAO... S**T!!! It might be scratched but I love it still. The bad guy looking down the barrol won't think about them scratches. I don't mind my rifle or shotgun getting scratched but this XD Is My BABY.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Yeah, I dont like it either when a nice piece of wood gets scratched or a ding in the metal of my nice hunting rifle or shotgun. Handguns (minus my Kimber .45) I dont mind too much as I feel they are made to see work and gins. You can barely tell my XD was ever black on top.
MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 What would you do and feel like if ur Kimber got scratched and scuffed up?
Benbrown Report post Posted August 6, 2010 For a handgun, investigate Black T coating--I guarantee that it won't get scratched as long as you don't use a chisel on it. The other option is Cerakote which is even harder. If you have the outside Cerakoted and the barrel and action treated with Ultra Bore Coat you can almost forget about cleaning and rust--especially in Arizona! MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 What exactly is black T coating, and can it restore the black finish on the gun even after its scrarched and where can I buy it? I just found a scorpion in my sandals outside. I'm so mad, I almost got stung. I never seen a scorpion around my house and neither have neighbors.
AzHuntingAddict Report post Posted August 6, 2010 My XD is doing the same thing, see pic. I love this pistol, and don't mind the scuffs. I wouldn't mind getting it blued or restored later on.
MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Mine is a little worse than your. Yes there are excellent firearms, what caliber is yours if I may ask? I heard that caswells in Mesa, does restoration on paint an d even do camo which is stupid, i think. I want the black paint restoration just on the top slide and maybe "Black T Coating" when I get more info on it and see if its right.
bonecollector Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I have the XDM 9 and I love it more than my glock 23. great guns
MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I'm not a big fan of Glocks. I bought a Glock 26 the day I turned 21, and a year later I sold than piece of junk for 200 bucks to a MCSO Sheriff buddy of mine. NO REGRETS, worse 500 bucks I spent, but best 200 bucks I ever got... I bought the XD with that money and OMG was it the best gun I ever had.
AzHuntingAddict Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I picked up the 9mm XD. I was sold when I picked it up and held it, and I like the feel much better than the glocks. Looking back, I wish I had gone with the .40 but am happy with the 16+1 capacity.
azpackhorse Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Another option is GUNKOTE, we use it a lot here at work and this stuff is tuff as nails. This isn't the best photo but here is my 1911, the black on the slide is satin gunkote and I painted the frame a brushed stainless color gunkote. It bakes at 400 deg.
