couesobsession Report post Posted August 7, 2010 Just out of curiosity, what unit was that deer shot in? I like hunting the rut in Unit 32. Easy to draw since I have all those permanent bonus points from the hunter Ed program. I like that adults can take it multiples time I'm looking for a new area, though. I've only found a couple really nice deer there, but I suppose thats enough. I shot a mainframe 4x4 (yes that doesnt include eyegaurds) that had two very nice three inch drop tines. Drop Tines on a coues are pretty rare. He green scored 129 7/8 " biggest buck I've ever taken. Havent seen many good bucks since then, though.

hancock Report post Posted August 10, 2010 it interests me why this buck would leave his area and travel 3 miles to public land in a different canyon for less does during the velvet, when he was king where he was at. maybe i need to reread about the habits of coues. everyone liked to take pics of him. he was very photogenic. Big G D Report post Posted August 11, 2010 Dont understand what you are saying about the buck moving 3 miles, the storey says nothing about that or moving for does in velvet. What are you getting at? The bucks in velvet are not even thinking about does! Maybe you should reread about COUES!

I would suggest to you newbie that you go out and learn about Coues deer habits for yourself instead of reading about them. Did you know the rains are here and the acorns have dropped , I have watched bucks in the past three weeks move more than three miles to get to the fresh new growth and acorns. I am curious as to what you might be implying?

hancock Report post Posted August 11, 2010 maybe a newbie on this forum, but not to hunting coues. when a coues has good feed and water with no hunting pressure what would his modivation be to move? predators. well all of his buddies stayed. he was the only one that moved. that must have been a very selective predator.
