bowhunter4life Report post Posted August 4, 2010 just found out my son drew a left over 36b tag. It has been 6 years since I hunted this unit. does any body have " safe zone camping area's" they have used in the last few years. I will have two youth hunters with tags. Thx! couesdiehard Report post Posted August 4, 2010 It has been a while since I hunted 36B also but it seemed like the closer you were to the main Arivaca-Pena Blanca Road, the less traffic we saw. You may see some stragglers on and around that road but not serious traffic. Lee
TEAM JESUS Report post Posted August 5, 2010 My son and I, plus 3 other drew the late Nov tags. Your more than welcome to camp with us, better in numbers.
NYAZHunter Report post Posted August 5, 2010 I agree with the 'near the Pena Blanca / Arrivaca Rd" comment. There is a public campground just past the lake turn off (Pena Blanca) and if you go another 1/2 mile or so, there is usually a group of hunters camped there. bowhunter4life Report post Posted August 5, 2010 Thanks for the imput, we will be down there Oct 22nd. I was not sure if the ruby road was a high traffic area and was ok to camp along it without issues.
NYAZHunter Report post Posted August 5, 2010 You might get tired of the dust and noise. You can also check out summit motorway , usually a few groups camped around there
BigBfever Report post Posted August 5, 2010 stay on higher ground, meaning stay out/away from the washes and you should be fine alot of the foot traffic will be in the washes/canyon. You'll see them walking the roads when they give up or run out of water.

QCwtAddict Report post Posted August 6, 2010 You might get tired of the dust and noise. You can also check out summit motorway , usually a few groups camped around there My family and I usually camp on summit motorway, there is alot of illegal traffic through there. A few years ago border patrol had a helicopter flying in a canyon right behind our camp and there is constantly border patrol driving in and out. last year a few hunters in our group saw 30 illegals cross the border in one day and my dad and brother found a woman that they left behind with a broken ankle and no water they called the border patrol to come pick her up. Others in our group have seen and walked up on drug smugglers in that area too. If your looking to stay away from the illegal traffic I wouldn't recommend this area. We finally decided this year that things were getting too heated on the border so we decided to try our luck in 24a. good luck on your hunt.
mnorth Report post Posted August 9, 2010 Peck Canyon is a excellent area. There is little traffic. The main access road is closed, the main entrance is private property, the owner closed it off, several years ago, due to trash left behind on his property. But you can still get in there. If youre interested let me know I'll get you more info, if possible I'll show you myself.

QCwtAddict Report post Posted August 9, 2010 wackycouesaddict- i doubt you can figure out where the buck was taken from just that picture but i guess maybe you could. We always camped pretty close to the border, there is an old metal tank that is all shot up right where we usually camp.
mroctober5 Report post Posted August 10, 2010 I was hunting in 36b last October, first time since january 2005. I was shocked to see all the trash, and only one buck. The further back, and more remote i hiked from the roads, the more trash I seen. Alot of game trails have become pronounced human trails. It's a shame. There's still alot of deer in this unit, but they've become even more skiddish, and scarce now alot more than when I first hunted down there in 2000. There's also some good camping areas around Sycamore canyon north of the Ruby road where the small bridge is. The warsaw canyon area, and the summit motorway area are too close to the border to camp I think.
desert ranger Report post Posted August 11, 2010 " Safe zone camping areas" in 36B ? Is this someone's idea of a well meaning joke? Listen my friend 36B is battle ground zero in the border wars! Stay in Green Valley with the boys at a hotel. I'm there often and all is not safe, regardless of what Secretary of Home Land Security Janet tells the media in Washington D.C. 36b Fanatic Report post Posted August 12, 2010 We camped 1/4 mile from the Border Patrol checkpoint on Ruby. Camp was pilfered in 30 minutes of arrival. Took all our chocolate and a couple cokes. No big deal in my opinion considering the amount of 'em traveling through that area. Talked to some other hunters/campers 200 yds away and said they have never had a problem. Just a chance you take I guess. Sidearm is a must! Random gunfire at 2 am doesn't hurt either. Heading back down in November.
