Apache7mm Report post Posted September 20, 2005 nice buck Coues7, my first coues i killed was a 3pt that grossed 92", my buck is probably just a little bit smaller than the one you have pics of so i'd say he goes mid to upper 90s, possible 100" buck but i agree with others that he's a little narrow on spread and his beams are on the shorter end, but those tines of his are pretty long and even! i think the first pic you have up of him shows him best, nice looking coues though. bcoover Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Is it me or does he look like he has about a 9'' spread. I think he is a great buck. If he had a 17'', or 16'' spread I would score him at 100 plus. but with the small spread and the tip to tip mesurment being only a few inches I wouldn't score him very high. I would say 70'' give or take. Very nick buck but lacking the spread. Everything else looks great.

The diff. between 100" and 70" is 30". That is a lot of bone. This bucks main beams go up as opposed to out like most coues bucks. I agree that the main beams are not awesome but they are decent. His G2's are great, especially his left G2, and G3's are nice as well. I have seen other pictures of this buck and his mass is actually very good. All four of his circum measurments will be very good on both sides. He is definately a solid 90" buck I think.
bcoover Report post Posted September 21, 2005 All I am saying is the spread is mesured three times. Outside spread, inside spread, and tip to tip. lets say his inside spread is 9'' the outside is about 10'' and his tip to tip is 4''. That equals 23''. Now lets say he has a 16'' inside, 17'' outside, and a 15'' tip to tip. That equals 48'' It isn't a difference of 30 but close. My point was he doesn't have a great spread and that will hurt his score. It doesn't mean this buck isn't a great buck. He is very well developed in all the other areas. (mass, and lenght of his tines) If he only had the spread.
bullwidgeon Report post Posted September 22, 2005 You get one inside spread credit in the score total. You measure the other spreads that you mentioned and put them on the sheet in the "do not add this to the total score" aisle but thats just for grins and giggles and does not go into the total score of the deer. That buck might go 90 something gross. I don't know what he would net. Bret M.
Shiras Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Very nice. I believe putting a score on the animal before you shoot diminishes the intrinsic value of the hunt and animal (unless you are Bill Jordan). Would YOU shoot him if you had 20 seconds to decide? That's all that matters. -Shiras
DEERSLAM Report post Posted September 22, 2005 I'd shoot him in say, 10 seconds
coues7 Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Well boys I don't know if that's the buck for December, but regardless he is beautiful. I have to say that anyone should be happy with him regardless if it was your 1st or last buck. He may not put you in the records books but he's a nice 90"+ buck. thanks for all the input. Bullwidgeon I have some bear pics for you. 5 bears....4 weeks. 1 sow+2 cubs, (1 black, 1 cinimmon and momma was a cinimmon), 1 black boar, 1 cinimmon boar. How do I know? Well you could see there nuts!
azhuntsmen Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Indeed he is nice but i would place him in the low to mid 90's.
bullwidgeon Report post Posted October 4, 2005 Post the bear pics or send them to me. The bears are definately out and about big time. While helping an elk hunter in 27 on Saturday I glassed up 3 bears in the oaks before 8:00 AM. I might go back and try to poke a hole in one of the acorn eaters in a week or two. Bret M. megahunter6969 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 This buck will most definetley be somewhere in the mid 90s! when was the pic taken? he may still have had some growing to do? AND WHEN SCORING A COUES WT. FOR B:C you only use ONE Of the spread scores and i believe it is the one from tip to tip! Youll'e have to check BC website to know for sure!
