CouesWhitetail Report post Posted July 31, 2010 yes, it is true. I have eaten it and it can be excellent meat. I recently had some mountain lion summer sausage that was very good. But I have eaten roasts also that were fine. It's lean meat.
Pine Donkey Report post Posted July 31, 2010 Mountain lion meat is much like a lean pork. The chops can be thrown straight on the grill with a little seasoning. It is some of the best tasting meat you can eat. In May I made a lrge batch of shredded lion that was very similar to pulled pork. I took it to school for my staff to try. Most people took a small spoonful just to try the exotic fare. Soon they were returning to load up their plates. Admittedly there is a bit of a stigma about eating a cat, but if you can get past that, you will have some excellent meals.
MangeyJoe Report post Posted July 31, 2010 That sound delicious... I never tried it but when it comes to meat i'll try anything. I ate rabbit, alligator, ostrich, and even buffalo which is awesome. I would love to try mountain lion but obviously I can't buy it at fry's...

You are not supposed to tell them what it is until they've already eaten it and are coming back for a second helping! I've killed two lions now and our family loves it! In fact my wife won't eat deer or antelope steaks, but she loves lion steaks. She thinks lion is better than elk. I don't know if it's that good, but I sure like it. As mentioned it sorta looks like pork and has a somewhat mild flavor. We had a big family and friends party for one of my boys birthday about a month ago and we roasted a lion roast in the crock pot and did the pulled pork thing with it. We didn't tell anyone until they started asking. If you ever get one don't let it go to waste!!!

All of the meat was tender and white and had a similar taste. I won't say it was better than elk, but it all was good. Bill Quimby

hunter4life Report post Posted August 1, 2010 Mountain lion meat is great. Like several people above mentioned, it is like a lean pork. By far the best meat of North American game that I have eaten.
kidso Report post Posted August 1, 2010 Copy that! My wife loves lion meat more than elk and bear! It is a beautiful lighter meat than bear or elk and looks like pork roast. I too have pulled it apart and barbequed it and brought it in for both my school staff and my students. They have also had elk and bear, but lion is truly the class favorite! MangeyJoe Report post Posted August 2, 2010 I never knew bear was eatable? Let me know if anyone is donating lion meat...I'll eat any kind of meat... I never has meat I didn't like . It goes to a good cause called "Joe's Stomach Fund".
Simple Hunter Report post Posted August 15, 2010 Mountain Lion...the other white meat We had some of ours - and I thought it tasted exactly like chicken. We cut up most of ours into bite sized morsels and portioned it into freezer bags. The dogs ate kitty kat for quite a while...they loved it. Scott
