BML Report post Posted July 29, 2010 I recently went to check one of my cameras that I have in the bottom of a nasty canyon with a spring. I had it out for a couple weeks and when I went to check it, it had nearly 2000 pictures! I figured that couldn't be right, since there were no tree limbs or anything in the way that would cause false triggers. When I opened it up I quickly found out why. ANTS!! There had to be thousands of little black ants inside my camera. They had already laid hundreds of eggs and had an entire colony building in my camera. It was fairly easy to get them off from inside the door, but they had made there way inside the body of the camera. It literally took hours to get them all out. I had to wait for them to come out from the usb port and then brush them off one by one. So a little tip I have since learned is to put some tape over any opening that you have on the outside of your camera and save yourself the trouble!!
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted July 29, 2010 I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago, but they didn't trigger the camera. I just pulled the card and left the camera on the tree. What kind of camera was it?

BML Report post Posted July 29, 2010 I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago, but they didn't trigger the camera. I just pulled the card and left the camera on the tree. What kind of camera was it? Just one of the cheap Wildviews. They don't take the greatest of pictures, but for the price, you can't beat them. I could actually see the little dots on the pictures, which I assume is the ants. Oh well, I still got some pictures of deer, elk and bears.

Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted July 29, 2010 After fighting with the bears and my trail cam, that is just funny. Course, had I hiked to the bottom of the canyon only to find out ants had foiled my plans it would not be funny. Thanks for the info, now back to fighting with the bears for me. Course, had I hiked to the bottom of the canyon only to find out ants had foiled my plans it would not be funny. Thanks for the info, now back to fighting with the bears for me. I have been very lucky with the bears. I have had several of them stand up and look right into the camera, but not touch it.
BML Report post Posted July 30, 2010 Doh........ Now that's nature just letting you know it's the little things. Hopefully they didn't mess up your camera and you can get it back out. I reset it a few days ago. It seems to be working properly, but we shall see. There are still some egg sacks in there that I can see, but can't get out.
