standman Report post Posted July 26, 2010 Well another big storm came through Lakeside yesterday and wouldn't you know it lightning hit the phone line and it went clear through the house destroying everything in its path. It first blew up the phone jack and caught the carpet on fire. Blew the phone clear across the living room. Fried two tvs, two dvd players, surround sound, keyboard piano, two lamps, pellet stove, computer, dsl modem completely exploded in to pieces, printer, three satellite receivers, and a sterio. Lightning went around the drip edge on the roof and then came out on a corner eave and just splintered the corner. It also burned all satellite cables outside the house in two. And finally knocked one mount off the wall. So the moral of the story is that when in doubt unplug everything during a storm. It could of been worse, could of fried all the kitchen appliances or even burned the house down. Brian

SunDevil Report post Posted July 26, 2010 wow - I always thought people that said not to talk on the phone during a lightening storm were full of it. sorry to hear about the place. I'm sure it will be covered by insurance but not your deductible or any pictures you may have had on your computer.
desertdog Report post Posted July 26, 2010 Wow man that really sucks. A few years back me my dad and best fried were sitting under my dads back porch enjoying a mid summers night monsoon storm grilling up some burgers and the next thing we knew ZAP.....the house was struck by lightning. It was the loudest high pitched sound we had ever heard. After we got though cleaning out our pants and the women folk came out to make sure we made it through the blast we took inventory of what was lost in the house. TV, computer, Microwave, phone were all toast. No carpet on fire that is wild!!!!!!

Yeah it should cover everything and at least most of the pics were back up on a laptop, tha,t thankfully, wasn't plugged in. Brian
catclaw Report post Posted July 26, 2010 That is scary stuff?? Sorry to hear that you have such bad luck with the storm. I'll bet very few people unplug stuff. I have several power supplies that guarantee against lighting- don't know if I should trust them now!!
